I Need a Housekeeper
I Need a Housekeeper !
This week sees your host behind with domestic duties and tiring somewhat of the mundane nature of these chores.
Despite having taken care of all these matters for some time I now find them tiring and wearisome.
I am now even contemplating the idea of disposable clothes in order to reduce the washing and ironing burden.
I see some clothes that are literally that cheap you have to wonder whether it is even worth washing and ironing general everyday clothes - wear them and throw them out.
Lest anyone wonder whether standards are slipping here at La Casa Goldeneye, rest assured the standards of hygiene are as high as ever.
Unless I go down the throw away clothes market I may need a ‘woman who does’ !
Naturally not to clean the the house, as we all know women are a little slapdash in that area, just general tidying washing and ironing - possibly even some cooking if she possesses the necessary skills.
I don’t know whether to advertise on the internet or the local paper - the internet could spell disaster

Rod,
Whilst this may seem like a good idea, think of your designer smalls being laundered by a housekeeper, not to mention the cashmere jumpers …… sounds too risky on the shrinkage front.
If you do go ahead, then we’re sure the women of Wybers Wood will be queuing (picture the nanny scene from Mary Poppins!) to get to grips with the Goldeneye chattels.
Naturally if the Witches were around the corner we would gladly take on the enviable task, whisking up the odd gougere while ironing your Y-fronts. Better get the lucky applicant to sign the official secrets act to protect against any tabloid intervention!

p.s. why has it taken you so long to figure out that housework is mundane? Is the reptile breeding programme taking more time than expected?

the scheme is full of potential pitfalls I have to agree. Candidates would have to be vigorously ‘road-tested’ to ensure suitability.
As mentioned some time ago, there is also the potential problem of the uniform she would be required to wear, see 2nd picture down Alexis Amore
Odd you should mention Mary Poppins as I was thinking an ideal candidate would be a cross between Pammie and MP !
Re PS. I am a simple soul and send to thrive on mundane tasks which do not over stretch my limited abilities.
As the to introduction of exotic wildlife into the Wybers Wood area, see Wolves back in England, that has had a setback due to unreasonable customs officers and what you can and cannot have sent to England !

Dinosaur
You remind me of the one thing that holds me back from a life on the ocean waves.
I suspect that once at sea, and effectively trapped, A Well Travelled Man may revoke my Deputy Captain status and have me swabbing the decks !
Enjoy the weekend

Rod,
For the time being would you like our domestic staff sent over? Roger F keeps his top deck court dust free and his gateaux are to die for. Outside we have Jonny Wilkinson sweeping and digging, strong chap, no job too much for him. All in all the Witches can’t complain …. from where we sit, shoulder deep in hot tub bubbly essential oils, the boys running in and out with trays of dates and Swiss choccies, the world looks a fine place.

your generosity overwhelms me ! Sadly though, I must decline. I feel I would get used to living the life you live only to be disappointed when it came to an end, which it must surely do.
I write this accompanied by the dulcet tones of the washing machine whirling away - wadya gonna do ?

Rod,
Did you know that these days you can get steam action washing machines? Whether they whirl we’re not sure but if they dry clothes as well and avoid ironing, then perhaps that’s the gadget for you. We take it you do have a dish washer?
Which leaves only general tidying and your simple victuals to assemble, what could be simpler?

p.s. in the years to come you could take up residence in a grand hotel and be looked after, a kind of half way house until the Retirement home is up and running.

never heard of that contraption, I may not need one either as I may outsource the work !
I have indeed always had a dish washer though I no longer bother to use it.
Yopur PS is spooky as I actually said the other night I fancy selling everything, cashing in and going to live in The Randolph Hotel and see out my days that way - very pleasant !

Excellent - perhaps your tiring of life’s mundane toils, such as the laundry issue, is in fact a sign that other more exciting things are requiring your attention!
Speaking of laundry. 4 people, wearing 1 clean pair of socks per day = 4 x 1 x 7 = 28 x 2 indivdual socks = 56 socks to sort out every week - minimum. Sometimes they wear 2 pairs a day - why?! And then there’s the underwear - 28 pairs of pants! In an attempt to bring meaning to these otherwise wearisome tasks, I have begun minor competitions eg. who has the most odd socks left etc. I am not so sad that I have produced a spreadsheet tracking the missing sock phenomena but it may be just a matter of time…..
What am I saying, I’m a woman, I should embrace these challenges…….bum!

There’s more.
A word of warning. Helpful, friendly cleaner - marvellous. But careful, slowly but surely they educate you into their ways, eventally making you question your actions in your own home and ultimately, becoming an incredibly powerful influence. My cleaner and I parted company, don’t get me wrong she was wonderful - but whose house was it really and whose house rules?
Ps. Contrary to how it may sound, I do like a clean house and indeed should have shares in dettox!

LW
I surprise myself with how much washing I generate, whilst I do often wear 2 sets of clothes in a day it still seems to pile up beyond reasonable expectation. The amount of laundry a family generates must be truly depressing !
You raise a great point about the cleaner, it would probably take as much time and effort dealing with a cleaner as it would to actually do it yourself.
It also brings to mind the ‘tidy up, the cleaner’s coming today’ syndrome !
