How to Put LP Records onto CDs or MP3 Ion iTT USB Turntable Review
If, like me, you have a lot of LPs stashed away gathering dust you may find this of interest, if you don’t then you’ll find it of no interest at all I suspect !
I’ve replaced many of my favourites long playing records with CDs but there are plenty that are either off catalogue and also not available for ahem - cough ! downloading !
That’s when this piece of kit comes into play.
Ion iTT USB Turntable Review
I bought one of these today after a chance glimpse in a catalogue, I never even knew they were available. Basically it’s a turntable you can plug into a computer.
You load the software, connect to your PC or laptop via a USB cable, play the record and the software builds a file that can be formatted to a WAV file suitable for burning onto disc or by installing a plug-in save for MP3 format.

Simple as that ! Well, not quite, took a little setting up and I’m still experimenting with it but I suspect, as with most new gadgets, a few goes will speed and simplify the process.
The software package seems to offer plenty of goodies in terms of editing and mixing, most unexplored yet so it seems things can only get better.
The tracks can also be ‘cleaned up’ as well separated and titled so as to display song titles in suitable players.
My confidence was such I also purchased 100 blank discs so it should keep me quiet, well noisy really, for a while.
Before anyone I know asks, NO
Don’t bring me any LPs you want to convert to CD format !
What’s the verdict on the Ion iTT USB Turntable
I am impressed ! It seems very reasonably priced and certainly does what it says on the tin.
Sound quality is better than I would have expected. It is comparable with …
er ummm - downloaded songs
Should I Buy One ?
Well you don’t need to burn too many discs before you recover your investment against buying the CD, presupposing they are still available of course
Disclaimer: This is not a paid review nor is there any connection with, or endorsement of, any company.
Goldeneye Verdict … Excellent Star Buy !

Rod,
We’ve known about these gadgets for ages although must confess we don’t own one … you’re surprised we can tell! However in the gadget strewn hallways of the Coven you never know what you may find. Just the other day we heard a loud bash and eventually found a piece of technical kit dangling in mid air having broken free from its constraints. We looked at it for a while and then decided that we didn’t know what it was or how vital a part it plays in the great scheme of things. So far so good.

p.s. Rod, just what is that ad for Model Russian Brides doing on this seriously highbrow site?

I am not at all surprised you’ve heard of these, surprised perhaps AWTM hasn’t seen fit to buy one though.
As to Russian bridges, that’s Google’s fault !
Look at this moment though they have exact matches for Ion USB turntables
- very impressive actually as it’s incredibly complicated

Rod,
re ‘Filth Hounds’- bags me a copy!!
What about ‘Tons of Sobs’ by Free or ‘The Golden Years EP’ by Motorhead?
Just remembered one I used to sneak out of your room every time you went to the pub and I had to stay in and do homework-’Crash Landing’ by Hendrix.
You know it makes sense!
LB
ps re last night, the only channel I couldn’t get was BBC4! Thankfully I had QVC and fifty Bangladeshi musical sitcoms to entertain me.

What on Earth is going on?
Rod using an electronic gadget that connects to a computer, without wanting to throw it across the room? Damn thing must be easy
On a different note, you do of course realise that transferring vinyl to CD is copyright infringement according to the BPI? And offering to ‘give’ a copy away is in fact piracy! The recording industry not only expects, but demands that you re-purchase these classics on CD. I wonder if that is why people have zero-respect for the ‘rights’ of music publishers?
Slightly off tangent. I found a copy of Transvisions Vamps’ Pop Art in a charity shop for a pound. Only band I’ve ever seen in concert, but wow was she hot!!

Craig,
I am almost computer literate now
I thought you were alowed to ‘backup’ anything you have bought ?
I hold my hands up to giving the copy away, I’ll demand LB return it !
Even though I am now a hypocrite with these things - much of what I am transfering is now off catalogue and cannot be purchased or ‘downloaded’
Just off to watch the video

Re: Backup
Not in the UK. There hasn’t ever been a provision for ‘fair use’ in this country, but obviously nobody is going to try to chase you for doing it.
Just found a site with nice mpegs of all of Transvision Vamps pop videos!
Does drool damage keyboards do you know?
