Rod,
It's almost like a gourd to be honest, it needs to start changing colour pretty quick to convince me!

Rod,
That's a new butternut on me! Good work tho'.
Let me know if the 'neck' becomes longer and the skin takes on a golden hue.

Rod,

The Witches are full of envy at the sight of your butternuts..... ours are embryonic by comparison. The Coven veg patch has been overtaken by these plants whose greenery is growing by at least a foot a day (slight exaggeration but fellow growers will understand, any bigger and we're talking Jack and the Beanstalk scenario). What we can say with complete confidence is that this type of squash is relatively expensive to buy in the shops and baked in a little olive oil in the oven, is delicious. Our natural seasonal barometer tells us that it's probably time to panic and give up on this year's crop unless something big happens over the next couple of weeks :(

To end on a high, we had our first home grown fig of the year which must have escaped the notice of passing vultures :)

WoE

p.s. if your success in the squash department doesn't tempt an inquisitive hot chick, then there's no justice :)
