How to Get a Tax Rebate in the UK
Your host is revelling in the morning post, for a change, no bills, no junk mail just a cheque from Gordon Brown
Goldeneye gets his rebate !
Danger - the following post may contain rants
Yes folks, as previously reported Gordon Brown gouged Goldeneye some time ago, well several times actually but being specific, I was informed I had overpaid my income tax.
When they informed me of this a couple of months ago I objected strongly to their terminology.
Stating that I had overpaid I didn’t overpay I was over charged !
There’s a subtle difference, their choice of wording suggesting it was my fault.
Anyhoo, today a cheque for £654.08 fluttered gently from the letter box onto the Goldeneye Welcome Doormat !

It certainly makes a change to get something back from Gordon Brown, even if it is something that was mine in the first place and was cruelly taken from in error !
I shouldn’t be too hard on the miserable Scottish ******* I suppose, after all when he increased my income tax this year by abolishing to 10p introduction rate of tax he did make amends.
Apologizing on TV to the British people (pathetic thing to do) I was reassured to hear him say that in hindsight it was a mistake and the Chancellor of the Exchequer will sort it out and nobody will lose out this year - there will be a compensation package.
Here we go again with a difference of opinion in the meaning of basic English words.
You’ll note the word nobody highlighted in the quote from the Prime Minister (later confirmed by that idiot Chancellor whose name I cannot even remember) forgive my ignorance and don’t accuse me of pedantry but isn’t nobody an all encompassing term ?
It turns out what he really meant was:
Nobody as long as you have children, receive state benefits or a state pension.
We’ll not me then, nor many others ! ![]()
Possibly that makes us “nobodies”
Pause to take several deep breaths …
The next question is what to do with the moolah?
Being heavily in funds may possibly have gone to my head already.
What should I spend it on ?
I suppose I could get that loaf of bread I’ve had my eye on for a while ![]()
It’s gone up about 40% recently but now I think my cheque puts me in that elevated position of the rich and famous and we all know that the Jet Set Brigade can buy bread and even, if Forbes is to be believed, eggs and rice
I sit here now awaiting the news that some unforeseen expense will come in totalling £655 !
Regards
Rich Rod

you’re right, normally money does go to money which is why it makes a nice change for some to come to me
I’ve blanked my address out so as to disuade would-be Golddiggers !
You know how easilywomen are swayed when they realise somebody has just come into money

it’ll take a lot more than £654 to make me look viable
Off to post a book I sold for… £5 - yet more money
Flavio Briatore watch out !

Rod,
So pleased you’ve been given back some money you shouldn’t have had to pay in the first place…… why are there so many tax rebates and how can they get it so wrong? Perhaps you are just one of those customers whose shady dealings (like paying up on time) have stretched their system to breaking point
So celebrate in style, never look a gift horse in the mouth, get out there and get yourself that loaf…. a solitary bun will not suffice and perhaps a large truffle to go with it… both being about the same value

Rod,
What a coincidence! I’ve just been given a rebate on my council tax! Finally, after ten years of a labour government I get something back. The Police Authourity in my area took it upon themselves to whack their budget up at my expense. Now Gordon has gone and ‘capped’ it and I am now £9 per month better off.
I shall go and buy that new infra red grill

quite right - how do they get it wrong, I’ve only ever paid what they asked and they do the calulation, hence my annoyance at the terminology suggesting I am at fault.
I’m thinking about the bread as I don’t wish to appear like I’m “new money”
