I certainly don't believe it's as black and white as you paint it. There are advantages to being found both social and sometimes financial depending on your situation. Interaction on the internet is not an exlcusive option for socializing but can be a great addition. You can keep in touch with, and socialize with, people you cannot actually meet up with face to face sometimes. Lots of kids today use IMs to chat together. They are all friends in groups and are literally talking to each other as they would were they in a group. Where can they do that at 9.30pm ? I think these things can be used sensibly and safely and provide a great addition to a social life but they are not mutually exclusive.
