How Did Derren Brown Predict the Lottery Numbers ?

Did Derren Brown Guess the Lotto Numbers or Was it a Trick ?
Well of course it was a trick - he’ll tell you himself he has no psychic powers. Psychic he may not be but genius he is !
Did you see the television show ? Do you know how it was done ? Have you an idea or opinion as to how it was done ?

The hype for the new Channel 4 series TV is certainly moving into overdrive now, we covered the amazing walking backwards TV Ad the other day and with fair reason I’d say.
Derren Brown has, in my opinion and I have to admit I hold him in high regard, brought something of the old-fashioned showmanship back to out screens and theatres. I think a modern generation is now longer really wowed by corny magic tricks and variety ‘turns’ and entertainers but Brown seems to be able to perform and get his audience ensnared like a Victorian performer.

So, how did he pick the 6 winning lottery numbers ?

Predicting the winning lottery numbers

£2.4 Million in the Bag !

The show was live, the BBC 1 read out the 6 randomly selected numbers and they matched exactly those on the balls he had in full view of the camera.
Obviously, he cannot actually predict the numbers therefore there has to be a trick - so what are the options ?

There must be a small built in time delay I should have thought - should be easy to get a couple of seconds or so which the human could not detect by switching channels.
Therefore the trick must be getting the numbers on the balls (or the balls in the rack)
Had they wished to prove it was all absolutely live they could have run dual synchronized official clocks or used the camera frame shot times or the like and shown both their time and the BBC’s.

There is one other possibility, remember the one he did were he predicted several one-after-another horse racing results ?
He had over 7,000 people actually putting bets on so the one shown to win 6 races in a row was simply a statistical event on a grand scale - brilliant - absolutely brilliant.
Possibly something along those lines.

Opinions as to how it was done, or just what you thought of it, are welcomed - please leave a comment below.
Derren Brown says he will reveal all on Friday night on his Channel 4 show - but for now . . . how did he do it ?

It looks like a camera trick, either two frames were interjected after the balls had been swapped for the correct ones, or every possible combination had been film before hand, and then the correct one was merged with the “live” scene of Derren.

This was great to see last night. I think though that he’s worked it out from a years worth of lottery numbers the statistical possibility that x ball’s will come out. Obviously this would be completely random, but surely there is some sanity to this kind of madness?

Thumbs up to him though, especially with getting people interested in magic & trickery again… I Loved how he’s use money as the actual target, because everyone wants to know how to become rich! :D

Weather or not this is indeed a full on illusion im not so sure…

i flicked between channel 4 and bbc 1 and there was a slight delay before derren showed it on his tele, by about 3 seconds, derren could do anything in 3 seconds? Very odd, cant wait to find out for sure.

Other sites all suggest either the balls projected the numbers… or a split screen.

Watching the video the camera seems a bit jerky and to move from side to side/up and down.
I think this would rule out camera trickery.

Its probably something much simpler. I’d love to know how he actually did it.

If it turns out he can actually predict the lottery, I heard he recently came out? Well maybe he is looking for a new partner… I’m married but to win about £500million a year across this and the Euro Millions I could seriously consider that…

Old trick, He probably allowed himself to get 1 number wrong. I bet it was something like as each ball came out he wrote a number himself. Therefore the first number out he writes down a guess. His second number is then the number of the first ball and continuing on from that.

All I know is that he did not play the lottery as it’s a roll over, so why did he not play if he knew the numbers?

watch closely at the start of the video the ball at the far left is level with the others but at the end it is slightly higher then the rest , so its a editing scam sorry to ruin your fun darren but we are not as thick as you think we are anyone with a cammera could have done this.

Why did he need to write numbers on board when numbers were clearly visibkle on screen Is it a device to “convert” written number to balls somehow?

Derren Brown lotto trick - how he did it:He walks in with a cameraman hand holding camera,
cut to second camera, then cut back to camera on a tripod (this is the first real live footage)
artificial camera movement is added to give illusion of hand held, the screen is then split in two, left hand side being pre-recorded with balls visible and un-touched,actually a person walks in and changes the balls, unseen behind split screen, the split screen is turned off and camera zooms in and the balls are correct, because they’ve just been changed.

It’s simple, the white balls have OLED screens on them which can produce vibrant natural colours. So there was someone simply dialling in the numbers and they appeared on the ball.

There could be wireless receiver chips inside the ball which sended the data onto the OLED screen.

Wikipedia OLED screens for more info.

if it were true, then the group of people who picked the numbers would always get together and never loose.
just why did we not see the numbers first adn then wait for the lottery numbers to prove him correct?

I’m divided on this - watched both the shows, of course, obviously as I mentioned when I wrote the article it is a trick. The deep maths theory Derren talked about is a blind and class DB misdirection.
The group averaging of numbers is correct and perfectly logical however it is based on something that is a known fixed price, i.e. like the guess the cow’s weight example he gave, and also needs either an item that is obvious and well known or a group of people who are reasonably familiar enough to make educated guesses.

Ask 24 people at an agricultural show how much a cow weighs and you’re onto something - ask 24 people in Manchester city centre and your average would be mile out due to hopeless spurious guesses.

I don’t believe it was a camera stunt, i.e. split screen etc. That would be beneath Derren I believe and would feel like a non-event, after all anybody could have come up with that.
    The man’s a genius !

Thanks to all for taking the time to comment and feel free to continue to do so

There was no way he really did it using the guesses of 24 people.
Its really quite disappointing how he didn’t reveal the truth behind what he actually did.

Still got to keep watching the rest of the shows as he is still a very entertaining guy!

If you have recorded it on u harddrive an as he walks to balls pause it, an rewind in slow u see the 1st ball at same level again, its 100% camera trickery. He did try the real things with the 24 ppls set of balls, why u think he did the sums b4 coming on live becuase he even tricked the 24 ppl that they did predict it. If only u had them ball spot on darren u could of said anything. U maze well be honest as its so easy tel the switch in reverse just like u advertisement. Shame u are a great bloke u just slipped up with that first ball.

It is definately camera trickery or some other trickery… there is no way this is how it was geniunely done!

He could have had the balls coated with a light sensitive substance and simply had the numbers projected on to the balls as they were chosen. what I dont know is what the substance is/was

Yes I totally agree he has properly checked which number comes out the most and wrote that down first in the hope that it does then wrote each number as it comes out.
