Horseshoe Point Lincs ~ A Day trip
Horseshoe Point is feature on the East Coast here in Lincolnshire and somewhere I could not recall having been before so . . .
It was a bank holiday Monday and I finally got a day off from my gruelling work schedule
so off I went.
It turned out to be a nice day but one of missed opportunities as timing conspired against your host
The coastline here is not dissimilar to places I’ve written up before such as Donna Nook and, to a lesser extent, Tetney Lock
I walked here for a couple of hours or so the weather was lovely if a little breezy and I wasn’t, for a change, the only one there - quite a good showing of people. The place is something of a nature reserve for birds (also a naturist site I understand) so I had hopes of capturing a few of our rarer feathered friends on camera. I did get some shots but distance meant the pics were mediocre so I deleted them rather than bore you and waste my bandwidth.
This being a naturist beach means there was the exciting possibility of naked women running about playing beach volleyball as exciting as this may sound to the single man I had hopes of something far more exciting - and I was disappointed - see below and curb your enthusiasm.

Horseshoe Point on the Lincolnshire Coast
Yes folks, nothing quite gets the Goldeneye Dander up like a wartime defence bunker ![]()
I can’t believe you’re all getting this exciting quality content for free !
Missed opportunity #1 came just as I was driving away. A group of lads appeared to be making the most of the coastal wind and the open space of the beach and were setting up to do what I imagine to be kite surfing - potentially a good chance for some pictures but I missed it !
Missed opportunity #2 came as I was winding through Lincolnshire dropping in on a couple of villages. As I approached Ludborough Railway Station there appeared to be cars parked all over - I slowed down and thought ‘hullo, what’s going on here’
Turns out to be a special steam train day - good job they’d done of it as well, old carriages open as a cafe and the like.
Now, I don’t get overly stimulated by the likes of the LWR (Lincolnshire Wolds Railway) it’s all a bit train spotterish - give me a DMV any day ![]()
No a DMV isn’t some kind of esoteric sexual practise nor is it, despite sounding like one, an intrusive and extremely unpleasant medical procedure it’s a . . . Deserted Medieval Village (we historians refer to them as DMVs) obviously far more exciting than train spotting ![]()
Anyhoo, I missed the train by, literally, 2 minutes and it would be nearly an hour before it returned - another photo opportunity lost.
I would personally ban all bank holidays as they benefit me in no way, in fact they prove to be a hindrance as the working masses clog the roads, interfere with my progress and encroach on my peace and solitude
Horseshoe Point is a great place to go for a walk - I certainly enjoyed it. It’s easy to find, the entry road is, as with Donna Nook, narrow but there is a free car park at the end of it.
Thankfully I was spared the site of naturists cavorting about sans clothing - despite being an experienced Naked Gardener and a locally renowned Naked Sunbather I’ve no wish to be assailed by the horror that is naturism - I saw a programme on it years ago - most unpleasant - I think it was the Bicycle Hire Centre at the naturist resort that finally finished me
Overall a great place - if you’ve got kids then somewhere like Cleethorpes is a better bet - unless they’re active and just enjoy being outdoors, which is unlikely, so more a place for adults and lone pontificators methinks.
Fully Clothedly Yours

not so long ago back in the 80s horseshoe point used to be the front line in air defence, i can remember all the bloodhound SAM missiles lined up here ready to take down the Russians at the first opertunity, pitty digital cameras were not invented sooner

Hi Chris,
you’d get arrested if you tried to take such a picture now - can’t even take a picture on the streets that has a policeman in I believe - good job we kept those pesky Russians at bay otherwise we could have been living in a police state now
Best
