Hornblower DVD Box Set

Today saw the end of a military style campaign waged by Goldeneye against the capitalist pigs that are DVD retailers !

The beginning of the campaign started a year ago and consisted of a 6 month war of words based around

Where can I buy the Hornblower TV series on DVD

The answer was, from someone on e bay in China selling pirate copies or ….. nowhere.
After this 6 month intro to the campaign there finally came a breakthrough - re-released - the complete series special edition - Fabulous !

Not So!
Cost ……….. £59.99
Piracy on the high seas - even with a sustained period of cut-backs and judicious budgeting I would be unable to go off at such a big ticket.

This saw phase two of the campaign - the siege !
Price checking in HMV and Virgin at least twice a week for another 6 months.
Estimated cost in transport and my time = minimum £1,000 !

I was strong throughout - resolute - never slept on watch and finally today the enemy capitulated.
HMV waved the white flag and slashed £30 off the price
Goldeneye shoots and scores at £29.99 !!

Much of the credit for my victory goes to my slavish devotion to the bible for all would be military leaders or successful men:
The Art of War by Sun Tzu
Though, as you’ll see by this choice quote, I still have much to learn

In war, then, let your great object be victory,
not lengthy campaigns.

The battle may be over, but the war has yet to be won - I expect to meet my enemies once again when we shall doubtless clash on the battlefield that is, Casino Royale - when it is released on DVD

    Rod,
An example to us all and my New Year’s resolution is to not buy average dvd thrillers at £15 to see it drop to £3.99 the following week.
I shall apply this line of logic before asking a woman out-give it six months sat on the shelf and watch her go for any price!

likewise very wise, buying movies as they are released on DVD is a rich man’s game and not for the likes of us.

As to asking women out, you’ve made your first mistake already.
Let them ask you - after all, we’re all equal now ;)

Appropriate and, of course, featuring WoE.

    LB,

My intellect must have escaped the notice of everyone else over the vast years, not so the hosiery and eclectic attire. Among the teaching/engineering/high flyers, I am thought of as bohemian, among arty friends of old, I am thought of as conventional and something of a cook ……… so far I have managed to fool ‘em all. Taking tea with Rod every week is a cerebral workout and allows the Witches to engage in thought provoking conversation ……. he has a very low boredom threshold you know, so we ply him with food as a distraction.

The available chick list looks alarmingly short ….. one to be precise. Trouble is LB, we Witches are of a certain age and our girlfriends, we’ve recently noticed, are also … very remiss of them. Although we are still looking for a Kylie for you, we suspect Lincolnshire may not be the best hunting ground …… could we perhaps broaden the remit?

If you’re also keeping a Witchly eye open for me you can broaden your search, think younger sisters, also daughters 17 years old or more!

I was once walking through the centre of town behind a particualy attractive young lady of about 19 years. Happily taking in the view I was rudely awakened by a prod in the back - busted !
I turned round to see a girl I know, the first thing she said was:

She’s too young for you !

    I replied immediately
Correction, I may be too old for her but she is not too young for me !

    Rod,

We see you with a young hottie ….. a more mature one would psych you out immediately and that would never do. As to admiring the view ….. well there’s no law against it, most of us would be found guilty if there were. What we need to work on here is you being attracted to a ‘mind’ regardless of age or attributes.

It may surprise you to know that we were not keeping a Witchly eye open for you ….. anyway you said you’d given romance the elbow? What’s happening with the ‘tickme’ women?

    WoE

p.s. be very wary while walking down any street near the Witches …. we will be the ones admiring the view, should we catch up with you there could even be a tweak, a cackle and a running off to hide!

I’ll have to put more weight into the cerebral aspects - you are quite right.
I shall do my best to find a fertile hunting ground, though presently venues, within my knowledge, seem thin on the ground.

I thought you were always keeping a witchly eye just half open ?

anyway you said you’d given romance the elbow?
It’s because I’ve been patiently sat here for years waiting for you to weave a spell on someone for me - now I find out you’ve abandoned the quest !

As to the tickMe chick, she is hot, and seems nice, there are however geographic limitations, i.e. she does not live in Lincolnshire

    Rod,

We have waved our willow wand in the general direction of many a wench ….. sadly all our spells were deflected by the ‘intellectual/wits protection device’ worn at all times by self respecting women. The Witches must find someone whose ‘lift’ doesn’t quite make it to the top floor as it were. In short Mr Collins, no woman with any sense at all is going to accept your terms, except a woman who wants exactly the same involvement as you. This type of female is scarce …. you must rewrite the girlfriend contract and look beyond the over fished region of Grimsby (no mob reference)!

Surely you and your brother could hit the bars of Lincoln and spellbind a couple of hotties? What’s happening with the Heritage Centre chicks?

If we find an Eva Green looking for what you are offering, then it’s a done deal, ok?

    WoE

    p.s. don’t hold your breath!

We look forward to socializing with your future girlf, girlfr…. mate, so we have a vested interest in what type you go for. The Heritage Centre lady sounds just the ticket ….. a Cloud 9 dancer and the Witches might struggle to make conversation beyond the common ground of pole dancing … this dancing with Polish people is popular isn’t it?

‘Anything we shouldn’t mention’-Will you ever learn? I told you under no circumstance to tell any prospective love kitten who my brother is, and I had you down as intelligent. Sort it out, witches.
Don’t tell them I’m a chef until it’s too late and if they’re really fit, tell them anything!

    LB,

We’re worried about the ‘kitten’ thing ….. she might be a more mature feline, someone with good taste. Telling them you’re a chef was going to be our opening line to grab their attention, that and your DC biceps … all the witches we know will love that.

    Rod,

They say people are attracted to those who they most resemble ….. that means we are looking for someone tall, dark and handsome, with something interesting to say, well read and nattily dressed. We’ve taken into account other more personal details about you to add to the list ….. who ever this woman is, we are liking the thought of her and will welcome her into the coven as soon as the drugs wear off!

Let’s not rule out the arts & crafts angle yet. What about enlisting in a short course if things look promising ….. the Witches might join you just to observe, but mainly to indulge in papier mache or whittling a garden sculpture. It’ll be fun and if the worse comes to the worse then at least you’ll have a willow stag for la casa Goldeneye. A quick chorus of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life should follow ……..!

    WoE

p.s. strangely enough none of the Witches have ever been attracted to anyone who resembles us so scrub the first paragraph and back to the drawing board.

God I hope not ! If true, all is lost !

The art/cultural angle is something I intend to pursue, my only reservation is that it doen’t seem the most likely draw for hot chicks.
It could improve my mind and general well-being though, so could be worth a shot.
