Happy New Year and Review

We shall shortly be saying farewell to 2006 and welcoming 2007.
It’s that annoying time of year when people inevitably consider what happened in the last 12 months and what the next 12 will bring
(edited at 16.50hrs)

I may well update this as I return and more things come to mind so any return visitors may want to read it again.

Firstly, I hope all that read this had a good year, I did personally, you’ll be pleased to hear, some high points below but in no particular order.

My Highlights of 2006

The summer was very enjoyable, probably the best I’ve had. Not working at all, out and about in the sun - all very nice.

A full year of being all but retired (18 months now) rarely working, if that’s what you can call it, more than 1 hour a day has been a joy.

Trying something I have never done before

Affiliate marketing and contextual advertising, boring, so I’ll say no more, but better than working for a living.

Walking, keeping fit and getting slimmer

This website. I bought the name rodcollins.com and wondered what to do with it. I thought I would try this just as a test ground to see the potential it may have in other areas of SEO and SEM.
I did not for one minute expect it to go the way it has or that it would become so popular.
It has now become something I genuinely love doing.

Going to Horncastle - fabulous !

Drinking and smoking - jointly my greatest pleasures and vices !

Building my garden fence! Went to town, built to engineering spec and tolerances - something constructive

    Talking on the phone

    Good food

My Lowlights of 2006

None really worth mentioning, quite fortunate really.
Everything seems to have gone as well as I could have reasonably expected this year.
I was going to do a list but it would be churlish, and as one of our regular posters mentioned a while ago - I should be more than grateful - wise words and indeed I am.

Well folks, I would like to:

Wish everyone who visits a very Happy New Year
I would especially send my regards and new year well wishes to:

My family
Old friends I rarely see
New friends and people I knew only for a short while
Our regular commenters

I thank everyone who has been nice to me this year, I’ve been well looked after, indeed spoiled, in various ways, by numerous people.

Happy New Year
Rod

The Witches would like to send regards to :

short people we’ve known for ages,
tall people we meet now and again and like,
    the Tuesday Philosophy tribe,
people we like but never see,
people we don’t like and unfortunately are forced to see regularly!

New Years resolutions …… to see more of the people we like who may or may not be short. To see a good deal less of the people who had nothing interesting to say twenty or so years back and still don’t.

To our dear friends on the other side of the planet who although far away, light up our lives with their genuine friendship and affection ……… the Witches are a multicultural and glamorous bunch!

We raise a glass to our families (who fall mainly into one of the above categories but we’re not saying which one!!), to all the regular contributors to this site, to the Coxeman (you gorgeous thing), Our Man in the Kitchen and of course the lovely Rod.

    Cheers, WoE

great sentiments and I like the cryptic comments. As most are aware I too am a fan of the occasional line that only a few, or sometimes only one, person may twig.

Thanks for the outstanding contribution to the site, my general feeling of well-being and my stomach - it is appreciated.
Here’s to more of the same in 2007
    Happy New Year

a good list and indicative of a good year methinks.
As to the Singapore medical fees, you should have stayed in Lincolnshire, brought that on yourself.
In re the new tyres and sensors, wait till you have a major maintenance service or an MOT failure on your catalytic convertor !

    Here’s to a good 2007

    Rod,

Although it will be a wrench to see them go, we do feel it’s time for a new set of Goldeneye presidential portraits. Unless it’s a Daniel Craig torso you’re displaying, we think it best to stick to your smiling face …. we were going to say best features, but if that went to the vote we could be waiting for some time for shots that only the Tate Modern would consider!

    WoE
p.s. now you’ve reached this age, make-up would be acceptable to counteract the harsh lighting ….

Don’t start with the pictures again, you’ll set everyone off !
I don’t have any others so I would need to take new ones which presumably would look much the same.

I was just about to say what different pictures should I put up there but this will bring email requests from intimate brigade

I will pass on the make-up, only a bag will help me now
I’ll see about doing more pics if anyone has any artistic suggestions

    Regards
    Rod
PS, what’s up with the pics there ?

    Rod,

Are we saying that teeth are out of the question? If it’s a new look we’re after then what about Jack Sparrow …… on the other hand, knowing what a gent you are, we’d probably opt for more of the Bertie Wooster with LB as a possible Jeeves. Failing all that, what about a studious portrait in an old bookshop setting with you dressed as Sherlock Holmes or some other detective of your choice. To cover the question of the existing photos …. well, they’re a bit Daliesque … so all you need is a melting clock and this site will also offer fine art! Do not underestimate the importance of these photographs especially if they are going to be included in your dating portfolio.

    WoE
p.s. the Witches are leaning towards a full Samurai kit with some familiar geisha as eye candy…….we might have to lose the specs and get you on a rapid high fat diet beforehand …

Someone who will remain nameless but well travelled, has suggested a Don Quixote outfit complete with donkey and windmill ……

Some Like It Hot is our final suggestion, obviously not Marilyn, that would be ridiculous.

    WoE,
Jeeves?-I’m no butler. Whatever next? My Ken to his Barbie? My beauty to his beast?
I want no part of it thankyou.

I’d be happy with Jack Sparrow but only Johnny Depp and Keith Richards are cool enough to pull it off in modern times. I used to have the hair and earring for it once though !

There are already pictures of me suited and booted, so that will be repetition on the smart gent front.

As to the suggestion from the well travelled person, the words long walk and short plank spring, somewhat aptly, to mind :)

As I mentioned previously, any new pictures would look much like the others, so possibly fancy dress is the way to go ?
    Hmmmmmmm……..
    Best
    Rod

PS, point taken on the smiling - next time I feel a smile coming on I’ll whip the camera out

Relax, were we to be cast for the parts of Jeeves and Wooster I am sure you would get Bertie’s part with me, naturally, being Jeeves …….
