Guest Post from Our Man in the Kitchen
This week sees the annual Head Chef’s week off work. That glorious gap in the calendar year when the kids go back to school and the business world are slowly coming back from their vacation.
After weeks of intolerable summer heat in the kitchen I can look forward to the cold weather, out with the “bet it’s hot in your kitchen” and in with the “wish I worked in your kitchen” -well no you don’t because at ten o’clock on a Friday night, half shot you’ll not be wishing you were cooking a hundred covers in two hours.
Enough of that, I’m on holiday! After months of eating nothing at home save a bowl of cereal in the morning I am faced with the challenge of cooking for no one other than myself (apart from left-overs for Mr.Goldeneye) Luckily I have a glut of home grown vegetables and a selection of fish from Grimsby Docks, courtesy of my best mate to keep me going, as for the prime rib of beef, well you know who you are!
I have struck a deal with the illustrious Mr.Goldeneye by agreeing to post any relevant tips and/or recipes in exchange for posting a regular rant about the world of hotels/restaurants/food/customers etc……..both my GP and GM thought an alternative vehicle for venting my frustrations could only be a good thing-just wait until Christmas!

I don’t do left-overs but thrive nicely on ‘over cooking’ and the resultant freezer tubs. Welcome to the site and I look forward to further posts

Hello my name is Vahid I to work in very hot kitchen .
I am 26 and come to England from a very small country near Russia to work in English kitchen .
Here I learn a good trade and no longer have to work an eighteen hour day boiling cabbage and hoffle,
I am also on high wage .
Back home it also get very hot in kitchen and once I over boil the cabbage and get beaten with a wooden spoon !.
I think the Chef also ready for holiday .
One day I would like to be like Mr Gordon Ramsey I see him on TV he my idle !, No one beat him with a spoon !
I look forward to reading your articles, perhaps I make new friend this is good .
I also read the Coxeman on this site , he seem very how you say Jack the lad ! with the women,
back home we show lot of respect to our women, they do not work on a Sunday, this is good as they need rest .
I look forward to meeting new friend on website

Don’t worry about beatings with a wooden spoon, I’ve been burnt, stabbed with a fork and hit with a metal spoon. In the workplace I hear you ask? No, sunday lunch with the parents and a certain Mr.Goldeneye, still going on some thirty years after my weekly beating during the wrestling on World of Sport…You’ve no idea

Vahid,
Beatings are character building, they will only serve you well.
You may not think so now but in the future you will look back on them and realise just how much you owe your success to them.
Personally speaking the boiled cabbage and hoffle sounds more frightening to me

Dear Sirs ,
Yes i certainly look back on the abuse i suffered back home ,
the Chef was not a nice man .
When i come to England it is only verbal abuse i suffer especially from the fat people who eat the chip ,
I hate cooking the chip as you call it , my first job in England was cooking the chip and burger , i was not happy , there is no skill in this type of cooking .
In England i better myself, yes, in my new job i have good position, my friends tell me this.
” I see you make the fun of my national dish in my previous comment
Perhaps one day i will understand your English humour
I like to make new friend please not take the mikey

Rod, what ever happened to the macaroni cheese?
It may not surprise you to know that my latest ‘must do’ is a Tarte Tropezienne, I daresay it won’t be a favorite of yours! Regards, WoE

WoE,
macaroni cheese became something of a let down. M&S failed for the first time ever. I need to do the homemade version.
The good news is:
The recipe you provided is now attracting search engine traffic to this site from people looking for the recipe ! Incredible
As to Tarte Tropezienne, had to Google it I am sad to say, my culinary ignorance knows no bounds. Looks waist enhancing!
