Glossary of Terms
As this site enjoys a great deal of traffic from visitors of all persuasion we have prepared this glossary of terms.
Should you come across a phrase, abbreviation or technical term you are unfamiliar with an explanation should be below.

Shortened term for the Advanced Book Exchange. A large site that brings together independent booksellers from around the world
blackhat SEO
This is the darker side of SEO. The idea being to manipulate seach engines, reverse engineer their algorithms and find ways to outrank your competition. Anything goes in this game, there are no ethics, #1 in the SERPS is the only goal. A dangerous game to play - sites can, and do, get banned and disappear from the engines - you have been warned !
Man Points
These are points awarded for doing something manly such as:
Drinking copious amounts of alcohol
Sleeping with Hot Chicks etc etc
Be warned though, man points can also be deducted as well as awarded.
You can lose points for things like:
Crying
Going out with an ugly bird
Remembering Valentines day etc etc

SEM - Search Engine Marketing or Marketer
Very similar to SEO. Basically the positioning of websites or pages within search engines for maximum exposure in the most relevant area
SEO - Search Engine Optimization
A broad subject, but basically building and tweaking sites and pages so they move higher up the search results. There are many different levels of SEO from safe, basic and sensible to the complicated dark arts. See black hat and white hat
SERPS
Search Engine Results Page - the pages delivered to you after you search on the likes of Google.
Used in conjunction with where you actually appear
spam - spammer
There are 2 types of spam, email which we all know and search engine spam. When I use the term I will be referring to search engine results.
I must add here I have never been involved with email spam ! But search ……..
