Girlie Pin Up Calendars Banned !
Yes folks it’s true - sexy pinup calendars are a thing of the past !
I know they’ve been banned from many a workplace but now it truly is the end of an era
After a 22 year run, this year there will be no topless or sexy chick calendar adorning the kitchen wall of La Casa Goldeneye ![]()
Every year since I bought this house there have been all manner of them hung on the walls some better than others but all with a common theme
Here is a picture from an old post - note the Bart Simpson lapel badge which has also graced every page since I got it many years go

It’s all probably just as well - as looking at Victoria above, and her like, is not going to do me any good at all
“It’s about time you grew up !”
Who shouted that ?
Well, I suppose there’s something in it, though given the fact the replacement is a Bart Simpson calendar it’s probable I’m actually regressing rather than maturing
Anyhoo, enough of this sadness and passing of old traditions and look to something positive.
I walked all the way to town and back today, damn fine exercise, good for the planet and good for the credit crunch hit wallet ![]()
The January sales have come early to Freshney Place and shoppers flocked in droves to buy crap that nobody else wanted !
It struck me that it was not only bargain hunters that descended but also vultures ! There was something sad about seeing people pick over the bones of shops and chains that have gone into receivership - I’ve never seen anything like it and sadly I fear there is much more to come!
The Queen has shelved plans to buy a private jet because it may look a little tasteless given the current financial crisis and much like her I was anxious not to commit a PR faux pas by the liberal dispersal of funds.
So, with austerity foremost in my mind I bought only what I needed - more books to read !
I bought 2 books for £1 from Oxfam !
It was with mixed feelings I walked home with my bargain books - one of good fortune at finding a bargain but somewhat depressed at the fact I could buy 2 good books for £1 - what’s more they were still there so nobody else wanted them !
It would seem that this year will see us all saying goodbye to things we have known for years as the world around us changes.
I’m slightly saddened at the loss of the Goldeneye pin ups who’ve brightened many a dull day, thanks to all those girls btw, and also as it feels like the passing of an era.
I just hope that many of the secondhand booksellers out there don’t go the same way and become a thing of the past.
2009 will be a very tough year for anybody reliant solely on selling second-hand books I’m afraid !
I trust this finds you all well and that you’ve bagged a bargain were you so inclined
All the best
Rod

Rod,
What’s brought all this about? Not that we’re complaining, it was high time that’s for sure but a little unexpected. Perhaps now you’ll get a real life pin up to dust the Goldeneye bookcase and bake you a pie, iron your socks etc. The act of ridding yourself of these is just the start of your journey into adulthood

I’m not sure what’s brought it about either ! The new Calendar is up and the kitchen does not seem the same every time I walk in - possibly I’ll get used to it.
As to your second part I remember an old post in which we saw Alexis Amore (in the second picture) who seems to have the right CV for the job you suggest
Fortunate as I am though I don’t think my fortune runs quite that far
Best

Rod,
How kind of you to remind us of dear Alexis and her circulation cutting stockings
We are still confident that you will meet someone who suits you very well and who in private might be prepared to dress up a bit (not in front of Father though, it’s not good for his heart …. nor we might add LB and just about everyone else
) so some of the time at least she’ll have to wear slacks and a sweater (do mortals still use the term slacks?). Now we are well aware that you don’t know much about women but let us tell you that they are a surprising bunch and somewhere there will be one for you…. and in your new Borat swimming cozy they won’t be able to resist… remember to use your DC swagger and be careful on the bike, it’s romance you’re aiming for not A & E

I suspect the term has died out as have the slacks themselves, outsize stretch jogging trousers being the nearest thing today
Now we are well aware that you don’t know much about women
I know all there is to know - my years of experience has taught me one thing, nobody knows much about women, including women themselves - they remain an enigma !
I’ll pass on the borat simming outfit, the chick cycling trousers are quite enough
Cheers
