George MacDonald Fraser Obituary

George MacDonald Fraser, author of the popular series of Flashman books, has passed away at the age of 82

A highly respected, and collected author, who’s career as a novelist began in 1969 with the publication of Flashman he went on to write another eleven books in the series to ever growing popularity.
Although best known for this series character he also wrote several other novels and works of non-fiction.
Many will be unaware that he also worked as a screenwriter on some well-known movies such as The Three Musketeers, Force 10 from Navarone and the James Bond film Octopussy amongst others.

His efforts were acknowledged by the queen when he was the awarded an OBE in 1999.
He also served his country in the army in Burma and India during World War II.

He was, by all accounts, a humble and well liked man who was modest of his success. He leaves behind a literary heritage and popularity that still remains strong today both amongst readers worldwide and collectors of first edition books.

A great author who will be missed greatly by those who love his ‘English’ style of storytelling, a skill that seems to have all but disappeared today
