George Clooney & Guy Ritchie ~ Eligible Bachelors !
George Clooney is the very epitome of the bachelor.
In fact look up bachelor in the dictionary and it says “see Clooney, George”
Well he’s teaming up with another soon-to-be bachelor Guy Ritchie !
George Clooney must be the archetypal bachelor - his name has become synonymous with the term and any number of glamorous women have tried to convert him.
Indeed, Nicole Kidman some years ago bet him $10,000 that he would be married by the age of 40 !
On his 40th birthday she sent him a check for $10,000 - he returned it with a note saying “double or quits for my 50th ?”
According to Michelle Pfeiffer she has a $100,000 bet with him that he’ll just marry “one day”
Well here we see the great man himself with another soon-to-be high profile single man ! I don’t suppose he’s quite the catch the GC is but he could well have a bit of money ![]()
He’s seen here as he is filming a coffee commercial with GC !
Which brings us the issue of the Madonna divorce; something we’ve not bothered mentioning here.
You’ve probably heard about though
Should Guy Ritchie go for a settlement or just leave with what’s his own ?
I’m divided on that one - I sort of think if it was the other way round you’d get fleeced so go for it !
On the other hand I think you’ll never be taken seriously as a man if you do !
I suppose it should be an equal opportunities thing - what’s good for the goose …
If I had to guess I’d bet he’ll want nothing from her - but we shall see
That leaves the questions:
Should George Clooney get married or stay as he is ?
Should Guy Ritchie take Madonna for as much as he can get ?

Rod,
Feel a little put out that you didn’t include me in that list. In case you’re all wondering girls, I bear a remarkable resemblance to the one on the right-we all have our crosses to bear

Rod,
Dear George, what a handsome man and much chased we imagine. Now good looks are one thing, but shinning up a drain pipe to fix the Coven roof are quite another…. that’s what we said to him at the interview
Now on with the Guy Richie thing…… surely they had some sort of legal contract drawn up before marriage? A fair deal is what’s called for, so no he shouldn’t take Madonna for as much as he can get….. mind you he looks like a shrewd business man so we’ll have to see. We Witches are allergic to certain business men and women…. you know the sort, the ones who would sell their granny if they thought there might be a profit in it. For what it’s worth a man could look like George Clooney but if he showed signs of being ruthless and selfish, he’d have to go.
Where were we, ah yes, George…. well he’s at his prime, but perhaps he hasn’t met the right woman yet or perhaps he’s taking lessons in the intricacies of Coven building regs before re-submitting his application
WoE
p.s. we were outraged to hear that Harrison Ford had declined to quote for the fitting of our new kitchen…. too big for his carpentry boots eh, well he needn’t come running to us when Calista gives him the elbow

Some famous people don’t it seems - some guff about marrying for love
Seriously though I suspect much depends on where they divorce, in this country a pre nup means little or nothing whereas in the US it would be binding.
A wealthy financier is currently locked in a battle to divorce his wife in France rather than the UK. They have always split their time between the 2 countries.
He says France she says UK - the difference in her payout is quite literally millions !
He should walk away with nothing and show himself to be a real man !
How much is your pride worth ?

Rod,
How much is your pride worth? …. plenty if you’re not out for revenge. Perhaps Guy has lots of money of his own and doesn’t give a damn about her millions? Child support is always a sticky issue and lets hope the kids survive this divorce without too many scars, lord knows there are thousands who don’t. In other households who’s paying for the school trips, shoes, uniforms, food and other necessities….. if we were a man who had divorced his wife and if we were earning a decent living, we would want to make sure the children had all they needed. Funny how some men we know can afford the little luxuries in life for themselves but when it comes to the childrens school shoes, they suddenly become skint. We all know things are tough when one household becomes two but on both sides the kids needs should come first. What will these children think about their parents when they become adults and how will they react to their own children? Play it fair that’s what we say and get on with finding a happier life for yourself.
It’ll get to the stage where people won’t get married unless they both have a property, one to live in and one to rent out as a bolthole when he or she finds out living with a library of old books say or perhaps a constantly simmering cauldron, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be
It all goes back to what we’ve said before, will all our nation’s children earn enough to buy a house on their own at a young age….. credit, mortgage, kids…. it’s impossible to see how things can change for the better sometimes.
Before we go we would like to wish everyone a pleasant and safe evening around the bonfire, sparklers sparkling and rockets rocketing.

Rod,
If you could rely on them the way you could a lady we remembered today then I’d try it again. Like the good man said, an end of an era. They’re simply not made like that anymore-either sex.

you’re right there !
You could rely on her for anything - she’d never have let you down.
The only thing you seem to be able to rely on now is a lack of reliability !

I could see that, the other point of course is that the average modern marriage last about 10 years so thinking purely logically the divorce has to be considered as part of the marriage. Given anyone getting married is most likely to get divorced only a fool could go into it without considering all the possible outcomes !
it’s impossible to see how things can change for the better sometimes
Absolutely, the only positive I see from most things around me and in the news is a selfish one - that being most don’t affect me !
I genuinely do think about those coing through though and envy them no one bit !
Youth may be the most sought after of all Holy Grails but I’ll settle for a house, a couple of quid and an easy life thanks !
Cheers

PS. To echo your thoughts I hope no children are maimed or injured with these ridiculous fireworks tonight !
