Gemma Arterton has reportedly been cast as a Bond Girl for Bond 22.
The star of the new St Trinian’s film is being reported by major news agencies to have been offered a role in the new 007 movie !

I suspect there is more to come with this story and possibly the role she has landed is one other more minor ones.
The producers seemed pretty clear that when casting their leading lady they were looking for someone with South American origins as much of the film is set in Brazil apparently.

Whilst being reported in the major daily UK papers today it appears to come from a mobile phone text message sent by the 22 year old actress to her mother. There are the usual “well placed sources inside Eon Productions” so …
That said, it’s enough for the bookmakers to scratch her name and they seldom miss a trick.

On balance it rings true but as previously mentioned my personal feeling is leaning toward a slightly more superficial role in the film.

It also shows the continued shift in emphasis toward more serious roles for women in the films as opposed to the usual ‘bikini babe’ looks, that’s not to say she’s ugly of course

As a relative newcomer then her star is certainly in ascendance, what with her lead part as head girl in the remake of the school girl parody and now the publicity whirlwind that always follows all the women who appear in a 007 film - hopefully it will be beneficial to her rather than dogging her career as it has some actresses.
