Free Books ! ~ And the Winner is
Free Books ~ Free Books and Delivered Free !
It’s no wonder booksellers are going out of business if they’re all like me ![]()
The Quantum of Solace competition is over and the results are . . .
I’ve decided to have more than one winner
1st place goes to Femme Fatale for coming up with the lowest Tesco price first
Jordan and Juli will take runner up prizes
Ultimately, stores held onto their prices till the last minute so this affected some people’s opportunity to participate on a level playing field - hence the extra prizes
Sadly, Adrian was pipped to the post by Femme Fatale but many thanks for taking part
So all 3 can choose a book from the list on the competition page, leave a comment here as to which one you’d like.
If none appeal let me know what your tastes are and I’ll see if I can find something more appealing.
Delivery addresses can be emailed to me here

I have a copy of the film now, came in a £7 from Tesco.
It was all slightly disappointing as I wanted to walk into town and find the cheapest copy for the sake of this article but the weather is miserable and the winds near gale force so I simply drove to Tescos.
I say simply . . .
I walked into the store and immediately saw a life size cut out of Daniel Craig near the Information Desk.
On the desk was a promo ‘dump bin’ as they’re known in the trade, of DVDs with a sign above saying £7 - awesome - that’ll do for me !
Selecting one I wandered around the store like a lost child when a laptop caught my eye and I entertained the idea of buying it before reminding myself I was here to save money not spend it !
Continuing the lost child act I loomed around the till area trying to find one that wasn’t currently being used to process a shipping order.
Then, out of the blue, a young lady appeared.
‘Would you like me to take the tag off that so you can use self-service?’
‘I don’t know how to use self-service’ said the man who has countless websites
‘Don’t worry, I’ll do it for you’
Music to the ears of any single man
Tag out, scanned and beeped.
‘That’s £13.97 please’
Thud ! In store first aider comes and places your host in the recovery position
After, smelling salts, an amphetamine shot and a slug of brandy I recovered enough to speak
‘It says £7 over there’
‘Oh, I see. Ah, this is a 2 disc special edition though’
‘They all are over there’
Off we go to look, the women at the desk confirms they are indeed £7 and have been scanning in all morning at that price.
Why mine didn’t was seemingly inexplicable !
It could only happen to me.
Anyhoo, competition winners, and anybody else of course, please leave a comment and we’ll sort the prizes out.
Regards to all
Rod

I’m still not sure how I’m being offered a prize in a competition where the winner beat me by nearly £3! That, to me, doesn’t even come close to being a runner up, but I’m not going to argue.
As guilty as I feel about putting you a step closer to being one of those booksellers that are going out of business, I love to read (is it ever possible to read too much?!) so if I can I’d like to request one of the Bernard Cornwell Sharpe books - I loved the TV series but have never read any of the books, and it’s not my normal genre of fiction, but I’ll try anything once!
Many thanks
Juli

Hi Juli
everyone’s a winner who visits this site . . . groan !
There will be a copy of Sharpe’s Prey winging its way to you tomorrow morning.
Hope you enjoy it, will make a change anyway.
All the best
Rod
PS: The Arthurian Warlord trilogy by Bernard Cornwell is a fabulous read.
sadly the only ones I have are in my own collection or I’d send you Winter King, the first book in the trilogy

Just to let you know the book arrived at the weekend. Many thanks again Rod, it’s been added to the mountain I own (that is the pile of books that I classify as TBR - to be read!)
