Fast Food Outlets in Hospitials - Madness !

Fast Food Outlets in Hospitals !
If you think that looks like a funny sort of sentence then fear not - you’re not going mad !
You might not be but somebody is - burger bars are opening takeaways in UK hospitals !

A health trust just announced plans that it is expanding (pun intended) its plans to pay fat people to lose weight.
It seems that people can get up to £1,800 of tax payers money, and from health care budgets, if they lose weight - this is worthy of a rant alone I’m sure you’ll agree but please . . . somebody explain this to me.

I’ve just seen a picture of a Burger King inside a hospital here in England
The hospital trust has leased the space to them so patients can eat junk food

Forty of England’s 170 NHS Trusts have rented space to fast food restaurants

Given that we’re being bombarded daily by health officials telling us that obesity is now a bigger health problem than smoking and that hospitals are struggling under the weight (once again intended) of health issues caused by obesity just what planet are they living on opening burger bars on the premises ?

big round buttIt’s a good job I didn’t go to hospital when I broke my toe
otherwise I’d have been more than a little tempted to bolt down a Big Mac - Mithras knows what Dr Rod would make of it all !

It’s a job to know what to do as papers today quote new research that suggests having a big round butt may actually have health benefits, others say it’s nonsense and you’ll probably have a stroke or a heart attack.
Either way, to illustrate this important issue I’ve got a picture here for you in the name of medical research - it’s as big and round as taste would allow me to go :)

Just to prove that not everybody is suffering from being over weight poor old Victoria Beckham is being hammered by American critics as being to skinny after appearing on some US TV show.
Amusingly, one UK paper carrying the story claims she’s a bad example to young women whilst carrying 3 stories proclaiming how great a UK soap actress is because she’s shed 4 odd stone and is now a UK size 6 - please, somebody give me strength.

There’s enough examples of this claptrap this week to overload this site’s server - it’s truly staggering just how much nonsense people are talking.
Is it too much to hope that there may be an out break of common sense or that people might decide what they think is right and wrong and stick to it.

It could just be me that’s getting confused - please let me know if it is - perhaps I’m delusional or it’s all some weird dream !

Yours in Confusion
Rod

Sadly Rod, you are not delusional…..although that could be another subject for debate in itself. As you rightly comment, an out break of common sense would be most welcome.

As an NHS manager I am appalled by the Fast Food outlet story. We are currently seeing far too many cases of extremely young people being morbidly obese with the accompanying cholestorol problems and the very expensive to manage, type 2 diabetes. I am talking about people under 30. God knows how much strain our NHS will be under when these people become older and develop yet more problems. It’s a serious business I’m afraid making people like you and I, who are conscientious enough to look after ourselves and monitor our health and weight, very, very angry especially when we see how much tax we have to pay.

Rant over. Over and out x

    LL,
it’s the staggering hypocrisy of it that enrages me. You cannot lecture somebody on something and then do a
volte face because a huge corporation offers you money - they’re bought and paid for thus losing any credibility they might otherwise have had.

Why not add a bar and cigarette vending machines as well ?
    Cheers
    Rod
