Does Walking Make You More Intelligent ?
Does Walking Increase Your IQ and Intelligence ?
Does watching soap operas and reality TV shows make you dumber ?
This and other things looked at in this weeks Winners and Losers
I managed to spend a fabulous day with my brother today, it’s an all too rare occurrence so something to be cherished. Walking all around Nettleton under huge Lincolnshire skies - Buzzards and Kestrels soaring overhead - takes some beating - here’s what it looked like this afternoon

Nettleton Top
Here’s the pick or the crop
Walking
Bare Faced Cheek
I get lots of emails, and I mean lots, but this one’s a corker:
Hi my name is A**a A**n and I live in Pakistan. I love Peter Cheyney books but they are not available in Pakistan. Moreover I am a student and i am not an earning hand. I can’t afford to buy these books from you because they are pretty expensive. If you could please send me these books for free I will be very thankful to you.
Men
Multi-tasking now looks like a myth !
Research suggests that multi-tasking simply leads to doing several things poorly and is, in fact, nonsense !
Where does that leave women ? I thought that was the only thing they could do
Lap Dancers
The qualifications to be a Pole Dancer are not quite as obvious as you may imagine. A new survey has revealed that 25% of Lap Dancers have a University Degree !
They seem to have swapped the idea of climbing the ‘Greasy Pole’ for one quite different
Walking
The benefits are well known but new medical research shows that walking for 40 minutes 3 times a week appreciably increases your intelligence.
How come I’m so dumb then - I should be a bloody genius !
Watching TV
Watching TV
Watching Soap Operas, Daytime TV and Reality TV shows makes you dumber !
So says the latest research, I can see how it drags you down to a lower mental level but do you not have to be at a certain level already if you’re tuning into Jeremy Kyle
George Michael
Washed up former popstar, now better known for cottaging and smoking dope, George Michael was in yet another car incident, did he fall asleep again or hit another car ?
No, he drove in shop !
Here’s a tip George, instead of spending £70,000 on a Range Rover use the money for cabs !
X Factor
Everybody knows the X Factor sucks - I’ve Amusingly Told You Before but it’s back yet again. It’s obviously always been a highly manipulated farce but now they’re using auto tuning software to make the contestants sound better - I thought it was meant to be a talent contest - pffft !
The Catholic Church
Once again covers itself in glory at the news it helped conceal the fact that one of it’s priests was in fact an IRA terrorist, apart from on Sunday when he was blessing people or telling them not to sin. He directed the plan for a bomb which killed 9 people, 3 were children, and injured 30 others.
Rather than being charged politicians and the church decided to post him to another ‘parish’ because he’d been “a bad man” - staggering !
Asda Supermarket
A fabulous gaffe from the head of one of Britain’s biggest supermarket chains:
‘Food quality is something Asda hadn’t been as focused on in the past as it should have been’
In another Asda related gaffe a Town Mayor referred to a visit he made to his local Asda on a YouTube video
‘My usual visits to Asda would probably be later than this… mostly to avoid the mutants who go in during the day’
It caused a local stir, doesn’t make it any less funny, or indeed any less true
That’ll do for me, time to raise a glass and draw a veil over a superb day, if you’ve got this far then I wish you all well and hope that you too can get out to somewhere like Nettleton this weekend and enjoy yourselves
If you’ve any comments, opinions or issues to raise either in general or with me indeed - then feel free !
Happy Bank Holiday Weekend

Cid,
What with the Maestro going on about walking and intelligence and you placing an order for boots I feel a touch of the Nancy Sinatra’s coming on. I know you are both far too young to know what I’m talking about so just take a listen at this:
###.youtube.com/watch?v=yRkovnss7sg
Sounds like sado-masochism to me! I’m sure Rod will be more appreciative of this version by Jessica Simpson

He’ll soon be seen strutting intelligently over Irby Dale dressed as The Lincolnshire Cowboy

Neville

Even though my workplace is not the largest in the world, we have racked up some miles doing our job. One of my compadre’s has done a couple of shifts wearing one of those pedometer thingummyjigs, and on 2 of 3 occasions, over 10 miles was walked in an 8.5 hour shift………so 5 days a week, 8 - 10 miles a day……..miles equals brainpower……Mastermind, Eggheads and Am I Smarter than a 10 Year Old here i come!!!!!!
Plus i walk about 15 miles a week with El Poochio! So anything between 50 and 65 miles a week is covered by yours truly, and I’m still as thick as doodoo!!!

Mr. HaHa,
“over 10 miles was walked in an 8.5″ Yes someone bought me one about three years ago, when I was still working. Because of the nature of my job, IT Technician & Network Manager in a school, I was walking about 8 miles a day but only in a 5¼ hour day, which pro rata was more than you guys. As far as exercise goes it doesn’t count for much as it wasn’t ‘at a decent pace’. Don’t know how it rates in this rather dubious intelligence callibration though
I walk far fewer miles now that I’m retired, but what walking I do, generally has ‘value’. So for me I guess it is no change!
Regards,
Mr. Ion CD

Rod,
A new survey has revealed that 25% of Lap Dancers have a University Degree …… wonder what percentage of waiter/waitresses/bar staff are working towards a degree? Besides, you can’t believe everything your brother tells you…. although I would because he’s got such an honest face

Neville,
I enjoyed that burst of Nancy….. in fact I’ve got the Best of NS on CD somewhere, proving perhaps that the music we hear played at home during our childhood holds a certain fondness as time goes by (apart from Des O’Connor of course
). You will forgive me Neville but I decided to avoid Jessica Simpson’s version, however I’m sure our host will appreciate her and her boots……. Nancy’s a bit too modern for him, strikes me he might be more of a Frank fan when entertaining at home
Cid
p.s. I trust my authentic Inuit winter leg warmers are coming along nicely Neville…… you can’t fool me with a Nancy Sinatra smoke-screen

Cid,
wonder what percentage of waiter/waitresses/bar staff are working towards a degree?
They’d do better working towards a job, most are too useless to even manage waiting tables never mind gaining a worthwhile degree.
Even if they do get a degree they’ll probably end up in a shop or minimum wage job anyway.
This ridiculous idea of the government that 50% of people should go to university for a degree is moronic !
Firstly. half the population are simply not up to it and all it does is devalue the achievements of the top 5 or 10%
Secondly, nothing like 50% of jobs require degrees therefore huge numbers of people will end up doing mundane jobs which is exactly what they would have done if they hadn’t wasted their time getting a degree
Best
