Does Facebook Ever Work Properly ?
Does Facebook Ever Work Properly ?
Am I alone in thinking there is always one or more functions not working either as they should or indeed at all ?
Likewise, is it the most irritating of the social networking sites in user friendly terms ?
I’ve never really liked Facebook in technical terms, it is poorly conceived, not easy or obvious to use and is seemingly plagued by technical issues.
Last week I could look at my profile but every time I went to ‘home’ it shut my browser down, all week that lasted.
The week before continual error messages on the friends aspect
Before that unable to upload profile pics or centre the thumbnail should it go up !
It’s very poor for such a major site as is usability, it should have evolved from its clunky and non obvious user interface.
Anyway, it’s a slightly more popular website than this one
(it did the unmentionable on Christmas day as well - more traffic than Google !) so I don’t imagine they care what I think and I struggle along with it.
In that spirit you may notice a new feature I’ll be adding to the site.
At the bottom of articles you’ll see a Facebook button which when clicked will automatically add a link to your wall should you wish to share the post with other (please do
)
It will give you a box to write something as well so feel free to say “have you read this crap” or the like
If anybody reading this has a Facebook account and feels they could click the button for test purposes in this case it would be appreciated.
It would certainly be appreciated in the future in the unlikely event you read anything you’d like to pass on
But back to the main business:
Does Facebook seem plagued by problems - more so than other sites ?
Full Functionally Yours
Rod

Rod,
!
Yes its terrible, I gave up yesterday trying to use it as it kept closing my internet down when I tried to use the search option, and to view other friends post’s
I did have a twitter account but have closed it down as there seems to be a lot of strange people on there and really I cant be bothered telling people what im doing every 5 seconds!! Maybee because im too boring can you imagine 9:am - making coffe it tastes good, 10:00am going the gym, very tired, 11:00am (i think you get my drift), people should not use it every 5 seconds its so anoying!! There I have had my rant I will be good for the rest of the day

Emma,
great to hear from you again - I find when I look at my ‘home page’ it shuts the browser down but I can look at my ‘profile page’ OK - there’s always something with the site !
I’m with you on Twitter - how many people have such interesting lives worthy of half hour updates !
I was on Twitter very early (only because I could get a free profile link) never really used after setting it up.
I personally believe it will soon have had its day - it’ll continue I’m sure but the craze will die off as more and more people realise it’s largely pointless
All the best
Rod

Facebook is s**t!! Drives me insane for a networking site who are thinking of charging to use them that they cant actually get the basics right!! Grrrr

Glenda,
that about sums it up I think, they have at least managed to stop it crashing my browser - it took them a couple of weeks but they managed.
There is a price though yesterday my ‘home page’ sadi it was unable to supply any data
Thanks for the comment Glenda and welcome to the site - hope you’ll return
All the best
Rod

It’s HORRIBLE! The site shuts down all the time. I get errors like crazy. It leaks memory like mad (I currently have facebook and 3 other tabs open and firefox is using 500MB of RAM). They keep ‘enhancing’ it which actually just makes it slower and more disgustingly slow (and in some cases, more confusing). I wish they would just make it work instead of changing things and just breaking them more.
At least I’m not alone…

Thanks Rod (and others) for a place to vent the feelings of frustration with Facebook!
I agree with all your sentiments. I’m not the world’s best interface designer… but hey… I know crap when I see it.
I use(d) Facebook solely for the ability to re-connect with old friends with whom I was otherwise out of touch. I truly can’t see the point of staying in the loop with regular friends and family via Facebook when there are so many better options. Lately Facebook’s purpose has been a huge letdown. I can’t seem to find the links/buttons or settings to display my list of contacts short of pulling them into a custom list, which doesn’t seem to work anyway as the system times out.
I’m days away from pulling the pin. I’ve suffered Facebook’s environment more than I care to. The age-based advertising, the inanity of well meaning friends using 3rd party social apps to send sweet sentiments, have a laugh etc. Once or twice was amusing - now I’m just dumbfounded… doesn’t the novelty ever wear off for some people?
In the not too distant future (hopefully) we will look back on this era of social networking and laugh and breath a sigh of relief.

Anakowi,
the interface is clunky and they’ve made the mistake of sticking with what they had - it was never as user friendly as My Space for example. Times have changed whilst they have not.
All that said even if they want to stick with it they could at least make it work - given the size of the site they put in a poor showing IMHO
Cheers
Rod
