Steve,
it's a great area for cycling isn't it and although on the way there's cars about when you get around there cars are still a rare sight in my experience.
I'm most likely seen with a camera heading off Wybers to walk on the back - even in this ice !
Best

Rod
Good to find your photos of the Ravendale chalk pits as we always called them. On the right in the valley heading towards Hatcliffe.
We used to cycle up there from Grimsby West Marsh in the 60s, probably hardly ever saw a car then, we used to spend hours there exploring all the nooks and crannies!. On the way back we would pedal furiously to the start of the downwards section of Ashby Hill. The object then was to see who could freewheel the furthest, we normally got at least to the ice cream shop in Brigsley, you wouldn't get much further as the road starts to climb then.
Almost 50 years later we still cycle past there and yes we do indulge in wearing lycra, if you have the legs and body show them!
As an aside, I hate the American term for lycra, spandex! now that does sound a bit dodgy :-)

I remember an article in the Grimsby Telegraph years back about "lycra louts" as they called them having the audacity to cycle through the sleepy hollow of Hatcliffe at a speed greater than walking pace or something trivial.

BTW Still looking for you on Wybers with that guitar slung over your back, perhaps on a sledge in our ice gripped estate!

Dino,
drunk - never !
I am abstemious in the extreme - well during day light hours :)
Such is the awesomeness of the Goldeneye Velocipede it can only be safely handled when fully compos mentis for that that the trousers are perhaps best avoided at times of lowered inhibitions as well :)

Rod, there are two things you mentioned which could account for the special attention of the female rozzer! You said before you set out that you filled the water bottle, you didn't say with water and I noted your visit to Sainsbury's included the purchase of a dozen bottles of claret. Could it be you were weaving about as you cycled, drunk in charge of a bicycle? :)

WoE
Were you wearing your cycling shorts in Sainsburys?
No I was not !
Secondly they are not shorts but trousers - my views on shorts being worn by men on this side of the equator are well known :)
All the best

LB
I wold't mind doing some cycling around the Lake District.
That was actually on my mind last night, the idea of going somewhere first in the car so as to go further afield

Drive carefully !

Rod,

Were you wearing your cycling shorts in Sainsburys?

We're sure all your friends and relatives are grateful that you have a new healthy hobby, at least it'll keep you out of trouble and off the streets, only it won't :)

WoE

p.s. is it time to take the stabilizers off yet.... :)

Rod,
Sounds great! As you were cycling around with great gusto I was stuck behind a tourist doing 20mph three quaters of the way around Lake Windermere on impassable roads-so much for driving an AMG-I'd rather have had your bike and got past the blighter.
One thing I don't miss about living in the Lake District is the tourists.
