Computer Expert in Lincolnshire
I’m feeling well and truly full of myself ! I know regulars will think I’m usually full of something but that notwithstanding I’m full of myself and the fact that I am now a computer genius !
The long-suffering amongst you, that is to say those regular readers, may recall last year my main PC got struck down by a virus called Vundo - it absolutely wrecked an otherwise excellent Dell.
I tried a few virus removers at the time and soon found my technical knowledge extended beyond it’s capacity.
After a few stressful hours I decided to fix it well and truly - I went out and bought a new computer.
This proved to be an efficient answer to the problem.
The old one has been sidelined awaiting some action. This evening I thought I’d have another go.
I somewhat foolishly thought it may have fixed itself but it was still wrecked.
Thinking I may wipe the lot and format it and start from scratch I started to look into how to do it…
Far too much involved but then I had a brain wave.
It ran on XP so I stuck a Vista disc in !
Bingo ! I left it grinding away like an old piece of farm machinery whilst I prepared dinner, when I came back it worked !
Amazingly all the old crap was gone. Pushing my luck I thought I’d try and get it on the internet.
This too worked - i’m truly staggered !
I’m now a computer genius and Craig would be proud of me
I now have what I will use as a ‘dirty PC’ for downloading etc.
This counts as another string to my bow, that makes two now - I can also do SuDoku puzzles ![]()
Such is my level of confidence I may even try to master other things like tying my own shoelaces and operating a mobile phone - the world is my oyster.

Brilliant, Rod, brilliant!! I really think the purveyors of viruses should be arrested and tried for treason. My niece found one that had come through a music website called Limewire. It allowed some hacker to use her computer to run all sorts of porn through it. This is the second person I know who has had this experience. nasty buggers. Now just be careful that you don’t sustain an injury while patting yourself on the back.

Hot weather is followed by thunderstorms. Thunder’s caused by the plasma heating of air by lightning, which sprays out enormous amounts of radio waves. Phone lines act like aerials, generating a high voltage pulse which can easily kill a PC modem or network card. If you hear thunder and your PC is directly connected to the phone line by cable, pull the plug out of the back. Similarly, don’t use an electric arc welder on a PC case while it’s running. Oxy-acetylene is fine.
