Cheapest Quantum of Solace DVD ~ James Bond 007

Who in the UK is selling the cheapest DVD of the latest James Bond 007 film Quantum of Solace ?
Times being what they are I want to mobilize the UK army of viewers this site has like never before !
Also, the first ever competition on the site !
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is

To monitor TV adverts, magazines, newspapers and retail outlets paying particular attention to supermarket chains, and of course online sellers in order to locate the cheapest possible copy of the new Bond Movie on DVD !

It’s released this Monday

Regulars may remember the last time they released a 007 film; your host, following a fabulous tip-off, engaged in a sting operation organized with military precision. This not only landed me an absolute bargain but also hit my brother with a double broadside :)
Good blog fodder as well - read the post Operation Casino Royale

The need for economy is pressing, not so much financially pressing as mentally urgent !
I like to think I am master of my own mind and that I control it rather than it controlling me. However, it simply cannot cope with being gouged when it comes to buying DVDs :)

It is a heavy month as well, not only have I ordered Series III of the Inspector Lynley Mysteries but finally, 10 months after I wrote about it !, that bloody Paul Gilbert DVD is to be released in the UK.

Competition !

Inspiration has, quite literally, just struck !
Why should most of you care ? Why Indeed !
Bribery Incentive and encouragement - that’s what’s called for - so a competition.
Whom so ever leaves a comment that includes the place selling the cheapest copy and states the price will win a free book.
The book will be delivered free of charge anywhere in the world (outside the UK surface mail)

Rules
You must state the vendor and the exact price at the time of commenting (no just saying Asdas)
You can enter more than once
It must be in stock and within the UK and offered by a ‘proper’ retail outlet (i.e. not e Bay)
Further rules may be added if deemed necessary.

I shall put together a list of books and add it to this page so the winner can choose.
Any thoughts comments or entries please leave a comment - there could be a runner up prize for best comment !
All the best
Rod

    excellent ! Many thanks
Remember you can enter as often as you like, resubmitting any already done if they drop the price.
Likewise anybody else can submit let’s say Tesco’s again if the spot it cheaper.

    Thanks Jordan

As of 18.09 on 21/03/09 the cheapest appears to be sainsbury’s at £9.97 - see http://www.sainsburys.com/groceries/frameset/navigation_frame.jsp for confirmation.

Incidentally Sainsbury’s usually comes out cheapest on new release DVDs, but always seem to get missed on online comparison sites. No idea why this is!

    Hi Juli
nice to hear from you again and you’ve played a blinder there :)
Yesterday I nailed my colours to the mast in re the price by stating ‘ there’s no way I’m shelling out more than a tenner’
You’re in the lead and withn budget.
Interestingly I was in Sainsbury’s today and looked for mention of the price but none anywhere, I presumed the big supermarkets are waiting to see who blinks first.

Enjoy the weekend Juli and nice to hear from you again
    All the best

    Hi Rod,

Standard procedure, according to my brother who works for one of the big four, is for supermarkets to watch each other’s prices the weekend before a big DVD release and keep shaving off a penny here and there to try and be the cheapest on release day. Very annoying for all the little minions (his words not mine!) who have to peel off the price stickers and put new ones on each DVD for the sake of a 2p price change!

Sainsbury’s are probably trying to keep it quiet, as at the moment they’re undercutting most by nearly £3! The question for anyone who is obsessive about getting a bargain (believe me, I could take bargain hunting to a new level!) is at what point do you give in and say time’s up, I’m buying now? As you know you’ll find, once you get home with the DVD, that another retailer is selling it even cheaper!

thanks for the inside griff, very interesting.
I doubt anybody up high ever thinks of the impact their decisions have on those working on the ground !

As to bargain hunting I blow a bit hot and cold. DVDs are something I’m price conscious about for some reason.
On Thursday I handed over an entire years council tax in one go and thought nothing of it, 10 minutes later I was looking at Series III Lynley new release at £20 and thought I’m not paying that  Go Figure :!:

I guess I look at value, or value as I perceive it, 4 big movie DVD releases for £20, as they now do in HMV, no longer moves me but £20 for the new Paul Gilbert DVD is fine !
    I need help I think :)
    All the best

I know I’m way too late, but for anyone who can’t get to (or won’t, on principal, set foot in) Tesco, Amazon are selling it for £6.98, so if you’re ordering other stuff to bring the total over £25 you’ll get free delivery anyway, or if you’re one of the lucky chosen few who gets offered a free trial of Amazon Prime (the yearly flat fee delivery thing) then you can order and just cancel your membership of Prime during the trial month so you don’t get charged.

cheapest price is Tesco at £7 but it is selling so fast they can’t keep up. Asda’s price will be changing on Wednesday watch this space. JS is £9.97 and so is Morrison’s. the best place to buy it if you can wait is Amazon who reduced their price to £6.97 this morning with free delivery. check it out it is worth it and much better version this time on release as it has come from Fox

    Foxboy!!!
