Chapel Hill - Research and Historical Notes on one Nuns Hills

Chapel Hill is part of a group of hills in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, known as Nuns’ Hill - situated at what is now Nun’s Corner.
This article will explore as much of the history as possible and attempt to provide an exact location

Chapel Hill, alongside Spittal Hill and Mill Hill, makes up the Nuns’ Hills range and are a key feature of Grimsby’s ancient history
druidic site
We’ll be concentrating our fire on Chapel Hill only on this page, more information on the other can be found via the links just shown.

This site is said to be connected with druids in pre Christian Grimsby, in fact the triangular layout of Hills A,B and C on the map is said to be of druidic significance. We’d welcome any information about this connection or any druidic connections that can be seen in the map.

Monumental Antiquities of Great Grimsby states that it was also home to a Benedictine Nunnery. The same book also goes into great detail as to the religious implications in terms of druids and there seems no doubt in the author’s mind as to the veracity of these statements.
Interestingly, he also mentions Grimsby as the residence of a British King, hence the need for two religious establishments !
A king could not be anywhere without druids !

We would be hugely indebted if anybody out there has information they could add about Chapel Hill in Grimsby.
