Lyn
thanks for the suggestions, they all fall short I am afraid, either because of a risk of actually having to work or danger!

I recently applied for the job of Pammie's bra fitter, I've yet to hear back from her though!

Many thanks!
You point out another aspect of nautical life that I would prefer to avoid

Lyn,
you point out some very worrying facts. I naturally bow to your experience in these matters. Whilst generally ignorant of the minutiae I guessed that much of the life would be less than convenient to someone with my delicate sensibilities.

This is why I declared from the start that actually sailing the 7 seas would not be part of the deal.

I see myself in a more ceremonial role

Mary,
I would, ideally, be captain of an art deco style thirties cruise ship!

You are, of course, quite right in guessing the source of this latest inspiration.

PS: As an ironic sound effect a seagull has just squawked (if that's the noise they make) whilst passing over - it could be an augury !

......alternative careers, let me see ....

catwalk model
kissogram (could be a great way to meet women!)
waiter
waitress (no one need ever know)
particle physics lecturer
astronaut (much the same as seafarer but uniform tends to be on the warm side at cocktail parties and possibly not as flattering)

Rod, I'm not sure I see you as a salty old sea dog although I can imagine the life style might seem attractive for a one man band and philosopher (claret drinker and part-time smoker etc). Global travel could be a problem since we've yet to get you out of the county but that aside it's perfect! Another option might be a broadcaster, I remember one joined as a guest and he sent in his report about life at sea, every day live on air. He was also an excellent shopper and we managed to buy lots of goodies in every port .... apart from that he had a very leisurely life and was well paid judging by his attire. A word of warning however, don't take your best shirts with you, the washing facilities leave a lot to be desired and require neat acid. Don't let us cloud the issue with facts .... one or two sessions with the man in the know should give you enough detail to bluff your way through many a cocktail party ....... can't wait! Lyn

I guess you've met my Bruv then! Of course you'll have to adopt the gait - he tells me it takes a while to adapt to terra firma! So as Honorary Captain, what would you transport on your ship or are we talking luxury cruise liner?
