Google are slowly but surely taking over your virtual world.
As well as controlling the search market, making them hugely powerful, there are also developing free tools and applications to lock you into them.
Free email accounts, free webapages, free office type software, online backup of all your data.
Browser toolbars so they can track all your activity on the net, collate and store all that user data.
They have now bought youtube for a huge sum of money giving them a huge foothold in the burgeoning video market.
An awful lot is due to change with the internet, I believe we are on the brink of changes that will echo well beyond cyberspace and into our own lives, business and bricks and mortar shops
Google is in something of a mess following its ‘big daddy’ update.
If you have a website you may well find a large number of your pages are missing from the index.
Crawling and indexing is also greatly reduced. The frequency and crawl depth appears to be directly related to you page rank.
You can now go up to a month without googlebot crawling your site, then it may only go to second level depth. If your site is strong and well established things are not so bad.
That said they are what they were before! Then what is ?
Newer sites are really suffering. Anyone out there who, mistakenly, has a PHP site needs to check the number of pages indexed. I think you may well find you are in ’supplemental hell’
To searchers out there, missing pages means missing results. If you cannot find what you want you may well want to try MSN or Yahoo.
This is hugely important for anyone with a site, sorry if it is a bore for those without sites.

Getting a page to number one in Google for a designated search phrase is clearly the holy grail. As well as being financially beneficial and increasing traffic it can also be amusing.
I built a page on a popular collectable author and managed to go straight in at #1 for the key two word search phrase.
This prompted an email:
Could you move your page down from the top please? I have been at number one for years and now you have knocked me off. I have emailed Google and asked them to put me back on top but have not heard back yet.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Another mouthbreather!
My response: I built another page on another site which is set to push them down even further. It’s a cruel world
