Why Are So Many Films Today Remakes ?
I wonder why so many film makers and film studios today feel the need to plunder the past rather than try and create something new and unique ?

I want it and I want it now ! OK hissy fit over, well nearly, where can I buy a proper copy of the TV series Game, Set and Match featuring Bernie Samson ?
I don’t ask for much, TV wise, which is just as well as I don’t get anything

John le Carre’s classic cold war creation the spy George Smiley looks set to hit the movie screen.
The books are absolute classics and they also carry the unusual cache of having been superbly translated onto the the small screen with the TV portrayal done to to perfection by Alec Guinness.
So . . . do we need a film version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy ?

Watched the Fourth Protocol, taken from the book by Frederick Forsyth, on DVD the other night.
Michael Caine and Pierce Brosnan did a creditable, if unremarkable, job.
Strangely, we have never seen it before, quite why I am not sure. Anyway, we are now sole owners of a copy, so we need not be submitted to the misery of being unable to watch it, should the urge thrust itself upon us.

Last night we watched the DVD of Sin City, featuring Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke et al. We like to think of ourselves as appreciative of good movies. This we bought simply for a presupposed cinematic experience on the home cinema system.
The film surpassed all of our expectations, the cinematography and direction were simply stunning.
