Casino Royale First Edition Ian Fleming

Casino Royale
by Ian Fleming

One of the most important,
desirable fine and rare books in the modern first edition field.
Originally published, the first edition in 1953, by Jonathan Cape, the book was an immediate success and has gone on to legendary status today.

Ian Fleming Casino Royale 1st Edition

The forthcoming film is likely to further bolster the rare book market and possibly boost the value. Personally I believe it more likely to consolidate the current price rather than dramatically increase.
If you are looking to buy a first edition in original dust jacket you would be advised to do so sooner rather than later. It is a rare book that continues to increase in value.

You would be well advised to check an Ian Fleming bibliography before purchasing, thereby ensuring it meets all the 1st edition issue points.
Possibly seek an expert valuation or appraisal - better safe than sorry !

Needless to say avoid Ebay - unless dealing with an established and well known rare book dealer

I have in my old novel library, 2 Ian Fleming first edition novels (Casino Royale and You only live twice). I would like to learn how I can put these on the auction block to sell. I noticed you had a first edition Casino Royale for sale for $19,000 online. The book I possess is the exact same book as described: *Hardcover, blackboards with blue edges*Copyright 1953 by Glidrose Productions LTD.*Published in the USA by Macmillan Company, 60 Fifth Avenue, NY*Uneven pages, with the top edges an orange highlight*3 blank pages at the back of the book*NO writing on any pages, excellent mint condition, 2 or 3 pages have been folded over on the corner, but that is the only discrepancy. I do believe the dust cover is also in excellent condition, but it is at my Mother’s house. I’m sure I can find it. I would appreciate any help you could give or to point me in the right direction. Hi John
thanks for the comment and welcome to the site.
You have an American edition by the sounds of it and it’s the UK first that is the really valuable book..

To put the book into auction simply take it to the nearest auction house and they can advise you from there
    Best of luck with it

Rod, can you give me the name of an online auction company that may be interested in helping me? Even if the USA printing is not as valuable. I would like to see how much I can get for it. Thanks.

    Hi John
the last US first I had I put on eBay, can’t remember how much I got - good few hundred, UK Sterling,
The only way you’ll really know what you can get for it is to offer it to a dealer, any auction is subject to obvious variables.
You can buy the US first in jacket for less than £1,000 usually, often considerably less, condition is obviously a factor.
Hope that helps a little John
    Cheers
    Rod

I couldn’t find a better resource than this, so I thought I’d ask. I have a US first edition of Casino Royale without the dust jacket. I’m wondering how much it’s worth. I’m looking for a ballpark number as I know it varies a lot. My copy is in great condition, just missing the dust jacket. Thanks.

    Hi David,
thanks for the comment and welcome to the site - I’m afraid we don’t value books over the internet - sorry about that
    Cheers

Ok, fine. Can someone at least tell me this… should I just store it away, or is should I just read it? I’m just curious if it’s something that I should just put away for its safety.
