I was very interested to come across the comment of "Andrew" March 28, 2011 .
I am a retired neurologist in Canada, and am researching my Lincolnshire family origins, many of whom lived in Caistor, Rothwell and Nettleton, and later Great Limber and Keelby.
My great great grandfather John William Waller was the illegitimate son of Mary Ann Waller,in 1857, and was born to her in the Caistor Work house. I have the birth certificate.
I am aware that this structure has been razed, but I shudder to think about the horrible time she must have had, though the later census shows her back again living with her parents and some other siblings.

John William was taken into the home of Edmund Foster and his wife Harriett (Waller), the sister of Mary Ann.

In 1879 he married Harriet Ferraby in Caistor in 1879, and their 2nd son Harry was my grandfather.

I enjoyed your commentary and photos which are a great help to me as i put this all together, and eventually I will be making a sort of documentary video of all this.
I would love to contact "Andrew" as we are likely related, ( he mentions names Waller and Ferraby) ,as well as sharing an interest in this family history, so I hope he visits your site again , and may see this note.
I would like to see the interior photos of the Caistor church if you can direct me.

George,
thanks for the comment and welcome to the site.
I've not yet researched RAF Caistor I'm afraid - it's on the list of things that need doing.

hi, lived on Canada Lane for a couple of years i think between 1964 & 1966 maybe 7. In 1966 i would be 11yrs young. We used to sneak into a walled garden and go through the tunnel to the otherside. never knew of any other tunnels, played on Mill Dam and Castle Hill.
My father had a market stall on Saturday. Could go on forever but definately remember the turret and the tunnel. Regards. Dave Roberts

I would really like to find out who owned the building [Market Place] that is now the "Settlement" pub, prior to its revamp. I believe it was a dilapidated building but I can trace nothing as to who owned it. Can anyone enlighten me? Did anyone live there at anytime between 1984 and 2004?

Many thanks.

Hello Rod - we visited Caistor today and were pleasantly surprised. A charming small town The newly restored Heritage Centre with cafe is a delight. By chance, we happened upon a craft fair in the Town Hall and it was very good. Real, genuine crafts, not full of a load of tatt which is often the case nowadays. It was only once we arrived home that I found your excellent site. It will be useful for next time we visit. Consider yourself 'bookmarked'. Thank you for providing such a useful and interesting facility.
