Cadney Church & Village ~ A Vistors Guide

All Saints Church in Cadney Lincolnshire
Cadney is a small and peaceful village just a couple of miles south of Brigg and has a nice early Norman church
I visited it a while ago and have finally got round to writing it up

The building has been altered over the centuries but some of the original Norman work remains whilst the tower and chancel are 13th century with the parish register dating back to 1564. In 1913 extensive restoration took place and, it has to be said, much of it seems fairly utilitarian. This is, being realistic, quite understandable given the costs involved.

What is perhaps more surprising is how often quite extravagant and very high quality restoration - truly a credit to those responsible for raising the funds. This happens so often that perhaps I’ve been a little spoiled and ‘more practical’ work on a church now jars a little.

I was back at The Ramblers Church in Walesby today as I toured around loads of previously visited churches and they had specialist contractors in repairing the twoer roof due to bad leaks - must cost a small fortune.
I did retake a picture of the carved heads which was blurred in the original post but primarily my tour was to try and find
skulls on grave stones, like this one, as I intend to do a separate post on them - didn’t find a single one today so I’m sticking with my original thought that they are uncommon borderline rare in Lincolnshire.

Getting back to Cadney, I have not found out too much information about this church, it is still one to tick off on the Complete List Of Churches in Lincolnshire but I should like to know more - if you know of anything please do leave a comment.

It is worth noting the proximity and connection to Newstede Priory (now Newstead) a Gilbertine order founded early 12th century I think.
I shall have to do a separate write up about this at some point so I’ll keep any mention or information about it for that post rather than confuse this one
