Book Dealer Magazine to Close
Book Dealer the trade magazine for the secondhand book trade is to close its doors after 35 years.
Since the unstoppable march of the internet the magazine has got thinner and thinner and decline looked, sadly, inevitable.
The backbone of the publication was always its wants match system. Booksellers advertising for and responding to book searches and wants.
The internet and sites such as abebooks and ebay have rendered this system redundant for most.
It’s a great pity when yet another pillar of the secondhand and antiquarian book business collapses (how many are left holding the roof up ?) but such seems the way of things today.
On a slightly brighter note there are, apparantly, rumours of a possible saviour.
Time will tell
