Banksy Pulp Fiction Graffiti Destroyed

Legendary urban guerrilla artist Banksy has had one of his most famous images destroyed !

This classic piece of graffiti artwork was painted over by train company employees.
The mural depicted Samuel L Jackson and John Travolta in silhouette from the film Pulp Fiction.

When management were questioned by the press as to why this London landmark had been lost, they, not unreasonably I suppose, said “their employees were professional cleaners and graffiti removers not art critics” !

Local residents and businesses everywhere will know graffiti to be the bane of their lives but in this case it was an absolute bonus. Shopkeepers claiming it to be a real draw to the area with countless people coming just to see and photograph it.

Banksy has gone from being underground to very high profile with his artwork now fetching considerable sums. The piece above was estimated to be worth some £300,000 !
Given the nature of some of his work it is destined to be lost, indeed this is not the first time it has happened. I would imagine the artist to be the the least bothered by this - half of the point is the temporary nature surely ?

Either way, a classic piece of contemporary British art has been lost - well that’s what I think anyway. I may bring some more Banksy to the site for those unfamiliar with his work.

Happy Spraying

    Rod,

We admire this artist’s work and feel inspired to create some wall art of our own …… picture this ….. rough, painted brick wall, tall skinny bloke walking along a Lincolnshire nature trail complete with exotic wildlife, carrying a volume of Hot Chicks Greatest Hits and a John Lobb carrier bag with ‘what’s in it for me?’ written across it. Doubt the hallmark of the Witches will bring about any financial gain though and as for anonymity …. perhaps Banksy has a similar mode of transportation.
