Banksy Britain’s Greatest Living Artist
Is Banksy Britain’s Greatest Living Artist ?
Yes, I think he is !
Mysterious guerrilla graffiti artist Banksy is really rocking the Goldeneye boat at the moment.
I’ve liked the stuff I’ve seen for sometime now, but since buying his book, Wall and Piece (now with 10% More Crap), I’m truly hooked.
I don’t claim to be particularly ‘arty’ and not hugely knowledgeable on the subject of art, but I’m not a Philistine either. My greatest moment in art terms was standing in the National Gallery looking at the work of Cezanne, truly stunning - nothing can prepare you for it !
Banksy may seem a long way from this to some but I would beg to differ. Surely, the primary object of art is to move people, to provoke a reaction and to make you think ?
If it’s just to create something pretty, easy on the eye, then surely we have enough biscuit tin lids or jigsaw puzzles to look at !
His work varies from truly prophetic to bitingly satirical to simply amusing !
A continual desire to prick the pompous balloon of authority resonates particularly well here.
I especially love the rats, the street art and the ‘defacing’ of old masters.
I don’t want to bang on or risk sounding pretentious (too late ?) so I’ll not drag this on but I would like to bring a few pieces to your attention every now and then, no overload so panic not.
I would be keen to hear what you think, if they move you or make you think.
Likewise if this is of no interest to visitors do also let me know, I’ll still do some, after all it’s my site, but I’ll not do as many as perhaps I might if they are of general interest

Wall & Piece
Here is the man of mystery, a picture of the artist himself - holding a pixilated self-portrait - fabulous

Rod,
We love this kind of art…. it’s so available to everyone. Our only other comment is that those are definitely not chick jeans so that rules out someone who we were convinced might be him

Rod,
Unless Banksy’s work starts to incorporate detailed elements of womens cleavage, we fear the talent might be lost for most of your readers! Still, perhaps they’re just shy and would appreciate a little gallery here on this site.

Missed the boat again!
Come on Mr Collins, lets have some festive posts. Did you know that Cliff Richard has said that he is no longer bringing out any Christmas songs?

His version of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails is awesome, beyond awesome in fact !

Rod,
Do you really mean Johnny Cash, the same JC that warbled A Boy Named Sue? As a young witchling I remember my parents playing his stuff all the time. Still haven’t seen the movie about his life but will get round to it one day.
WoE (still no tinsel spirit yet but next week expect to be hit by the full thrust of Christmas - here’s hoping anyway)

indeed the same man but forget the country music, it’s a selection from the American Songs albums he did prior to his death
