Are We Living in a Resignation Culture

It seems to me that nowadays as soon as somebody does something wrong or inadvisable there seems to be a witch hunt with screams of RESIGN from all quarters.
The only people who seem safe from it are those that really should resign !

As I type this the controversy surrounding Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross saga has come to a head with Russell Brand falling on his sword and resigning.
The clamour surrounding this minor thing beggars belief, even our illustrious leader Gordon Brown felt the need to get involved.
Clearly a collapsing economy and dire national problems are not enough to keep the great leader busy. As an aside if anybody ought to resign …

Russell Brand has given a fulsome apology and seems genuine when he claimed that he does his show to make people laugh and not to upset people - shouldn’t that be enough ?
I seems as though the media acts as judge and jury in these matters and continually fall back on things such as
“widespread public outrage” etc etc
Well, how many people are really interested in “outrages” and “scandals” such as this and others ?
In percentage terms very few I suspect.

I also feel in this case there has to be some latitude given. Brand is edgy, he pushes the limits and has a very colourful life. Given this, those who employ him must accept that when you push things to the limit then from time to time things will go beyond the limit - it comes with the territory.
If that is unacceptable then employ a safer pair of hands - you cannot expect the benefits of being on the edge without accepting the risks of falling off occasionally

Should we judge people on a single event or slip-up ?
I don’t believe so - everybody deserves to be considered as a whole and we should not be hanging people out to dry unless truly deserving.
Regards
Rod - Resigning for nothing but resigned to everything !

This has to have been one of the most ridiculous stories of recent times.

They shouldn’t have rung Andrew Sachs so many times, but the man himself has said that sometimes in comedy you miss the mark, and that is what he believed has happened here. He accepted the apologies, and that should have been that.

Oh no though. His grand daughter then weighs in (spying publicity and fame for fames sake) and starts by whining how they treated her dear granddad, whilst selling her story to the Sun on how poor Brand is in bed!

Two people actually complained about the show, but unfortunately the ‘media’ grabbed hold, and people have used it as an excuse to try to get Ross and Brand out, as they don’y like their license fee being used for this sort of entertainment. Sorry but I’d rather watch Friday Night with Jonathon Ross than get depressed over Eastenders or watch some faded has been twirling around a dance floor in a toilet cosy!

we’re singing from the same hymn sheet !
This story has dominated all the news at a time when we’re fighting 2 wars, in the biggest financila crisis in living memory, people losing their jobs and houses etc etc - ridiculous !
