A Week in the Life of a Bookseller
Just what has happened to me this last week ?
A topsy-turvy last seven days or so - I would like to discuss all aspects of it but for reasons not connected to me some things cannot even be entre nous
Photographic Crisis
I was told that I ought to update my torso pic in the flashfader, top of the page.
Being an independent man who takes orders or instruction from no one … I did as I was told.
It’ll only take moments anyway ![]()
It started with a battery crisis / fiasco for the digital camera then dragged on through much searching through the instruction book and internet to see why the pictures were terrible.
The upshot, it seems, is that the camera is goosed - a good Canon one as well ![]()
So the torso picture had to be done on my mobile and sent, at the cost of 25p I hasten to add, to the computer via email !
Goldeneye Helps The Times Newspaper
Your host was helping out the picture editor of The Times newspaper last week. Anybody seeing the article on the greatest crime fiction authors in The Times on Saturday will have seen the Goldeneye input - without even realising it.
Gone Back to Amazon in an Attempt to Sell Books
Friday saw me reopening a merchant selling account on Amazon, the idea being to try and sell some books that I appear to be stuck with.
The whole thing went far better than I could have hoped and the account that has been dormant for over 5 years is now up and running.
1,000 first editions went up and are now awaiting the interest of Amazon’s book buying visitors.
It’s costing me £30 a month to be on it plus a percentage of anything that sells and a gouge on payment fees.
How’s it going then ?
Crap !
I have not sold a single book
Firefox Crashed
I use 2 browsers Internet Explorer and Firefox and usually have 4 browser windows open at once. FF is used for the SEO internetty things mainly. The other morning when fired up it declared it was “starting in safe mode”
Anyway all my bookmarks were lost.
A nightmare as many go to complicated URLs for site statistics etc.
I didn’t realise just how much I relied on these bookmarks - more grief and way beyond what I would have imagined
Music DVD Breakthrough
Saturday saw the unprecedented and obscene profligacy of £16.99 of your hosts hard earned groats being throw at an Iron Maiden DVD. This cavalier attitude seems to have been a temporary aberration and was rescued only one day later.
Sunday saw a great success, I hesitate to go into details but involved two individuals …
Steve Vai and Craig
I’m, not sure which of the two is more awesome !
Hat tip to Craig for his patience and corrupting influence
That’ll do now - as I’ve been told before, keep the posts short
Regards
Rod

Rod,
How is it that with a world famous photographer in the family, you were tinkering about with a goosed camera yourself? Perhaps the subject matter didn’t appeal to him and who could blame him …. by the way is it really you in that picture, it’s hard to tell as it flashes by? Only it looks like a far chunkier guy, at least someone size 12
Anyway moving on from your body parts…. it sounds like more of a turvy week, not much topsy possibly due to censorship or so we hope. The Witches have been busy little bees working and socializing… matter of fact we recently met a new friend, an honorary member of the Coven now whether she likes it or not, proving once again that Lincolnshire has a plethora of fascinating folk.
Well, we could go on but alas we are exhausted from constructing a garden arch only to find several nuts and bolts spare at the finish… always a worry but so long as there’s no wind or earthquakes, moles or excessively wide people, it’ll be fine

a good point about the photography, I’ll not bother replacing the camera, simply sub the job out to someone with all the gear and the talent !

It doesn’t stay on for long so as not to put new visitors off the site
at least someone size 12
Still in 10s you’ll be pleased to hear ! But you could be right - it does make me look fat.
That could be the aforementioned pasta binge or it could just be that I am still fat
Cheers
Rod

Rod,
It doesn’t stay on for long so as not to put new visitors off the site … a work mate was accidentally flashed and is still recovering
…. think her words were … ‘lucky you, fancy having friends like that’… let’s hope she never meets you or the spell may be broken

At least it’s a she and not some hairy plumber
let’s hope she never meets you or the spell may be broken
Absolutely, much like modern art I’m best viewed from afar and not to be taken seriously
Best
