A Lincolnshire Photographer ~ The Life & Times

A Lincolnshire Photographer ~ The Life & Times
Due to popular demand, and I do mean popular demand :) this wasn’t my idea, I’ve put a random selection of photographs together for, I suppose, a sort of gallery page, link below.
It’s just a sample but they’re larger than I normally put on the site - hope you like them . . .

This is not a photography website, nor will it ever be in essence. I love photography although ultimately it leaves me disappointed.
I’m unable to do the sorts of things I want to do and the options for taking, what I consider to be, stimulating photographs are thin on the ground and ever dwindling.
I’ll still be bringing photographs to the site of places I visit and recording things I do though.

The images on this site are often of big scenes but displayed in a relatively small scale, this is detrimental.
I’ve been asked quite a few times about putting more photos on the site and making them bigger.
I’ll not bore you with that so what I’ve done is build a static page with some sample shots on it.
They’re bigger and whilst not exactly exciting they do display some of the places I visit in Lincolnshire.

I will leave this page open so anybody who wants to ask any questions, make any suggestions or comment in general can do so below

Hope you like them and don’t feel it was a waste of your time
All the best
Rod

At last ! You are way too hard on yourself!
(If you want to see bad photos I shall email you some of mine ! oohps I already have )

A very good choice but the funghi ones and the church in the light will always be my favourites, Rod.

Ty for these. Can we have more of these pages occasionally? ( or maybe the daffodil one from last Spring.?)

    Hi Rod,

Great shots and the “Loneliness” image was the outstanding pick for me. Don McCullin would be very proud of that one.

    Donald,
    thank you, very kind indeed.
I stopped the car in the middle of nowhere when I saw that tree, walked down the track and took the shot.
    Thanks and regards

    Rod,

The Fly Agaric and the tree are the ones that do it for me. In the fly agaric the use of depth of field comes into it’s own and really enhances the main subject. The tree really clever use of the light there Rod you have got it bang on and it shows that being in the right place at the right time does pay of. I would put money on it that you could visitt that scene another dozen times and struggle to get another shot like it. You say your photography leaves you disappointed but with shots like that it should’nt do.
    Well done Rod.

    Graham,
Photography itself leaves me disappointed rather than the results per se. It’s the lack opportunity to take photographs that interest me and are creative - shots like the tree, as effective as it is, doesn’t really do much for me as it seems too easy, there’s no challenge any more.

as you say, the light is everything.
I think a large part of it though is controlling that light, getting in the right spot, and camera settings.
I regularly shoot into the sun as well Graham, works well if you get it right.

    Thanks and regards,
    Rod

    Stan,
I’m pleased you like the site and I appreciate the feedback, not for vanity as it were but it really helps to know what people think.

Pleased to hear you’ve got a new camera Stan, what sort is it and what are you looking to photograph?
    Regards,
    Rod

Great pics, Rod, but I reckon one is not one of yours. There’s a shot of York Minster in there; I’ve worked out how long it would take to travel to the city, park up, take the photo and come home. There’s no way you could survive such a length of time out of the Celestial Shire! ;)

    AM,
it was hugely traumatic, I’m still ‘bomb happy’ from the experience despite it being many months ago :)
I did try using a super telephoto lens from the Humber Bridge but it wasn’t quite long enough :)

Fantastic! I think the one in St Nicholas Churchyard has so much atmosphere due to the early morning light! Absolutely beautiful!

    Paul,
thanks for that, it is appreciated, and I mean that.
It was a wonderful light and I’m pleased I was actually able to capture it properly and convey the scene.

    Rod,

I see where your coming from with regards to the challenge. Not being funny or degrading I don’t think photographically any of the shots in you gallery would be difficult to do but I think the challenge is in finding the moment. I wanted to photograph a scene from Nettleton top a couple of years ago, it took me four days of continuous visit an sitting there for hours to get the shot I wanted but when I got the light that I wanted along with the cloud cover I was over the moon. I often do this just go and find a spot with flask of coffee and a few sandwiches and just watch the changing light and you can get some fantastic results. Also I hate using photo shop I much prefare to get the result right in the camera I only use photo shop as a last resort.

I hope you don,t think I am being funny Rod I’m not you do get some great shots which I would be proud of. I just think there are more challenges in photography than some people realize. Try digiscopeing Rod now that is a challenge that I love and hope to master.

    Regards.
    Graham

    Graham,
it’s why I prefer the idea of creative studio work really.
Is finding the moment a challenge Graham or is it simply waiting ?
I haven’t the patience to hang around, same as wildlife photographers who sit somewhere for hours, I’m too impatient :)
    Thanks and regards,
    Rod

    Rod,

That’s where we differ I think, When I am doing landscape or nature I sit there for hours. Just taking in the surroundings is all part of it for me.

    Graham.
