A Kitchen Garden Banquet

Last night saw your host feasting on the produce of Goldeneye River Cottage.
A great day !

So far, I have had a few bits from the new kitchen garden, some courgettes, a cherry tomato and some fennel but last night saw me gather all my veg for the evening nosebag !

Kitchen Garden Vegetable Selection

Fennel - Courgette - Pepper - Tomatoes - Leek

As can be seen, a nice little haul for the novice gardener. The smell of the vegetables is a revelation and only makes one wonder more about what we buy in supermarkets etc

After washing and preparing I placed it all in the oven to slow roast just tossed in some award winning extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
The smells whilst cooking were simply mouth-watering.
They were served with a roast chicken breast and lemon and coriander cous cous.

I have attempted a gastronomic portrait in the style of my brother’s photography, sadly this has failed, though I would draw your attention to the effect of the steam rising from the plate.

Home Cooked Kitchen Garden Vegetable

Dinner a la Goldeneye

You’ll also notice that my table is set for banqueting mode and I was surrounded by family and friends :)
The vegetables genuinely did taste very much different, far superior to any that I have ever bought from any outlet.
The tomatoes were the greatest revelation, the taste and sweetness was simply stunning - truly amazing.

Anyhoo, just thought I ought to bring you an update as I bored you with the project from the very start it seems only fitting to bring you it’s finest hour

I wish I could have shared it with you all in some strange way !

Bon Appetit
Rod

Twice in one week….. i am impressed again! Well done that man!
    You should be proud.

I think the cous cous looks a little overbearing and bland, try mixing more herbs with it, a handfull of R.C. RC’s fresh mixed, you will be mighty suprised.

    To look anything like LB’s……

Take off 90% of the veg and cous cous.
Place one tablespoon of cous cous, place in the middle of the plate.
Scatter one slither of fennel, leek, courgette, and pepper around the edge of the plate.
Slice chicken into 2, balance on top of the cous cous.
Drizzle olive oil over chicken and veg.

And hey presto - you can charge - £29.95, (at least)

    Regards

in terms of portion control you’re right, the cous cous is a portion for 2 and does over balance the plate but contrary to popular belief I do eat quite a lot - and need it !
How else can a man do a proper days work ;)

As to LB’s portion control, I once remember ordering a wild mushroom dish in one of his restaurants and told them ‘don’t stint on the bloody mushrooms’
I got such a plate full I could hardly see over it - that showed me !

    Rod,
re my portion control, women should be flocking to my restaurant, if they can’t be bothered to go to the gym they can eat here instead. That’ll keep the weight down.
It’s so easy to let yourself go.

    Rod,

While I salute your effort … the chicken makes me want to cry. However I cannot find fault with the nutritional balance. Anyone who can challenge Keira Knightley’s midriff measurements must be doing something right :)

Looks marvellous - a triumph! Definitely something incredibly satisfying about growing your own food - one in the eye for the supermarket!

many thanks, it was indeed something of red letter day for me.
Though I doubt Lord Sainsbury is quaking in his boots and cancelling the 2008 Bentley he’s ordered :)
