A Day Trip to Lincoln in Lincolnshire
The best day of the year weather wise played host and companion to one of the best days out of the year.
What a great day - a day of two parts in fact.
Part One: A Day Trip to Lincoln
This is something of a preliminary to the second half of the day which will be coming to you soon - I’m the master of suspense ![]()
The weather simply begged to made the most of so early morning saw me making plans on the hoof.
Being a decisive kinda guy I kinda made a decision and I was soon making my way through the Lincolnshire Wolds to Lincoln.
It spent quite some time in the Jews Court bookshop hoping to find some books in their fabulous selection of local interest and Lincolnshire history books. Sadly I could find nothing that would shed any light on the enigma of Grimsby Golf Course Monastery
I had a picnic by the Riverside and suitably nourished I went in search of another mystery. The TK Maxx shop. I’ve never managed to find the Lincoln branch but thanks to my brother’s directions I felt confident this time round
“Go through Debenhams and it’s straight ahead”
Easy then - er no ! Still couldn’t find it. After wandering around for a while I stopped two girls.
They declined my offer saying “who do you think you are Russell Brand ?”
So I stopped a man who told me “It’s near Morrison’s, bloody miles from here !
I was however near a music shop so I sauntered in then wobbled a bit. A feeling of light-headedness, nausea and blurred vision bore all the hallmarks of an impending wallet attack ![]()
Hanging there on the wall looking stunning was a Paul Gilbert Signature Ibanez
I had to run for it lest I made a rash decision - I couldn‘t believe they had one in stock.
Next stop Oxfam Bookshop, the most expensive bookshop in the world ! They have in-house book experts to ensure they never undersell anything they are given for nothing. I gave them a quick lesson in book dealing and walked out with 3 books for £5.97
Finally back via the Cathedral and it’s looking more magnificent than usual. The process of cleaning the front is well under way and the results are outstanding.
I went inside to the side chapel and lit a candle in order to remember those who are, sadly, no longer with us.
I do it not for religious reasons but for remembrance.
It always reminds me just how lucky I am still to be here - in more ways than one.
I’m not religious but there is an ethereal glow around the candles in there that I don’t see with candles anywhere else - perhaps I imagine it - but I don’t think so.
I tried to capture it on camera but the true feel proved elusive.
Here is the candle I lit which will still be burning as I write this - take a look at it and perhaps take a moment to reflect and remember those no longer with us
Ethereally Yours

Rod,
Ooops, must have moved! In my defence it’s not the calibre of retail outlet I would normally associate myself with

Rod,
We were very moved by this post and your visit to Lincoln’s crowning glory. Just goes to show you are not so shallow after all. While the hunt for the shrine of TK Maxx may have taken the edge off it for some readers, to us it encapsulates the essence of RC and his quest for a bargain. We should add that it is not in the interests of the local 34″ x 29w people of our fair city, to direct you to this hallowed place any more than it would be for the truffle seekers of Perigord to divulge there exact whereabouts
Personally we will be compelled to visit the same site and light a candle in the hope you don’t get your hands on those Japanese thong jeans

As I always say, my shallowness knows no depths
I don’t go to TK in order to get a bargain simply to see something different and also because it’s the only place you can buy trousers !
The men I saw walking around Lincoln need fear nothing of directing me there - our interests appeared not to coincide
Best

Rod,
It’s time, we feel, for you to show some individualism by buying shorter trousers and sewing the textile of your choice to the hem…. you could have a matching top, think of the possibilities
