A Day Out in Lincoln
Saturday saw me making a spur of the moment trip to the historic City of Lincoln !
And, would you believe it, everything worked out fine ! … well more than fine
A Day Out In Lincoln
Sometimes things just all come together, or so I’m lead to believe, rarely see it myself.
The day started at 5.30 am and saw me, internet things and ablutions completed, on the road at about 9 am. Travelling through Lincolnshire via it’s main artery the A46. It was at this point I was glad I owned a vehicle designed and suited to high speed autobahn cruising as I tore through the Lincolnshire Wolds at speeds often approaching 45 mph !
The sun was shining and not just on me, I found an all day free parking place near the Cathedral, right under a big tree in the shade. 1 nil to Goldeneye already !
I took a leisurely stroll through the High Street taking in the sights and sounds of the big city
I was keenly subjecting likely looking shops to intense scrutiny in the search for more Bart Simpson pyjamas.
Bingo ! Found 1 pair, the best design I’ve seen. Only 1 pair left and they were ‘fat kid size’
Awesome ! They fit - thanks, once again, go out to obese children everywhere, without you I would be sans Bart PJs - keep up the good work !
Flushed by this success, and no doubt influenced subliminally by the very reason for making kids PJs in this size, I went to MacDonald’s !
Suitably sustained by a highly nourishing double cheeseburger and fries I sallied forth in search of a music shop.
A GPS like ability in direction finding saw me at the door of The Music Room Lincoln, ’twas in there I met Lewis in the guitar department. A top man who shares all the same musical guitar influences that I do - despite the age difference. Refreshing to be able to talk about all these things with someone just as keen as me but nearly half my age !
Anyhoo, because of Lewis being a top man, I bought a new amplifier there even though I could get one in Grimsby far more conveniently.
Decided to come back for it rather than carry it about all day, clever huh !
I also wanted a first edition of the latest Jeffery Deaver novel to keep my set complete. Not difficult really, but me being me, I must have a signed copy. I know a couple of guys who can get me one but I had not gotten round to it.
I walk into Ottakars in Lincoln and there they had a signed copy left over after the author visited them as part of a promo tour, £5 off cover price as well - you beauty !
Is there no end to this man’s luck you must be thinking. Well, indeed there must be an end … but not just yet.
Returning to The Music Room in Lincoln our Steve Vai Signature guitar playing friend Lewis was just out to lunch, physically not metaphorically that is.
I perused the music books. What do I see but the full guitar tab to an album by Steve Vai called The Elusive Light and Sound - never seen the CD let alone the music.
I ankled smartly down the road to HMV, found the V section and low and behold they had the CD - incredible !
I, somewhat rashly and uncharacteristically, threw both caution and £13 to the wind and returned to buy the music book. Once again spending £18 with rare abandon though I were rich as Croesus
I then successfully purchased a Fender guitar amplifier which I carried, along with all my other fine purchases, up Steep Hill and to the Cathedral pausing only to go inside and light a candle.
A further short walk in the baking heat saw me safely back at the Goldeneye chariot which was deliciously cool under the shade of a huge tree which looked as old as Lincoln itself.
What a day ! Sometimes things just come together !

Sounds like a very nice, but expensive day for the ole RC wallet!
A week on bread and dripping I believe is in order.

Hi Jordan,
it took it’s toll financially, and therefore mentally
Upon my return a spent a couple of hours laid down in a dark room and had a rub down with a damp copy of Guitar Player magazine - I felt somewhat soothed after that.
I’ll have to pass on the bread and dripping - bad for the waistline.
I’ll eqt out of the garden instead - just off to pick a courgette to add to breakfast now.
Should be some fennel for tonight as well
Take it steady

You: had a rub down with a damp copy of Guitar Player magazine?!! Well that is a new one! was you wearing the BS PJ’s at the same time? :-~
Yes, i can see that it would have taken its toll.
So the slugs and caterpillar have been extinguished? Good to hear if so. The food sounds deelish. Good chow!

Isn’t it great when a day starts well and finishes even better.
A walk up Steep Hill.
I heard the other day there are steps, where I asked, I have never seen them, as anyone else ?.
I presume they are somewhere at the back of the shops.

I work on the principal that a dampened cloth is meant to soothe the brow.
Therefore to take it one step further I used a dampened publication best suited to the cause of my stress.
i.e. A stressful book incident would call for a dampened copy of Book and Magazine Collector
Slugs … a continuing war but one am winning. Last night saw me slugging at 1am, resplendent in my new Bart PJs, used to get loads now just the odd few.
Best

ARB,
news to me about the steps.
One thing I did notice was that pensioners had less trouble getting up Steep Hill than the younger people !

ARB,
Steps on the right as you walk up, you end up near Readers Rest. I shall be walking down them on Friday night to see if they end up near Cloud 9-just for interests sake you understand.

Pensioners Walking up Steep Hill in Lincoln with Ease
(well they seem to be running when overtaking me)
How right you are, you can certainly spot the locals, pensioners seem to have their own fast lane, well to the right.
I am also amazed at the amount of women that have little or no trouble whatsoever in going up the hill in high heels.
I will investigate further as to the whereabouts of the steps.

Lb,
Thank you for your offer of help in locating-researching the steps.
I do of course appreciate that wherever they
lead you - or you end up - is of course beyond your control.
I wish you well on your mission, wherever it may lead.
Ps - take a camera
Regards,
ARB.
